The item is described as a wallpaper seam roller. ike all seam rollers, quickly rolls in a controlled direction and applies even pressure that can be used to create a thin layer of relatively uniform thickness by expelling any viscous fluid excesses to its edges. This model has softer "rubber" outer layer of greater thickness that permits it function better over uneven surfaces without damaging and distorting the wallpaper. Although not the intended use, it is excellent for creating and even layer of thermal grease needed to conduct heat in a variety of applucations, where a very thin and uniform layer is required. This could alsobe used in small scale printing applications as a breyer. Insummation, a high quality product with many uses due to its excellent design.

This roller is a good solid robust tool, and the roll itself has some give to it, but it is still firm enough to apply good pressure.I used it for applying sound deadening in my car and this is the perfect tool for the job.
