Yes, it's plastic, but it is rugged enough. And it doesn't cost what some cup-holder radio mounts do. I wouldn't put a big and heavy mobile rig on it, but it is quite sufficient for one of today's small 2-meter - 70cm transceivers and works well with the Radioddity QB-25 and similar. Down-checks? You will have to figure out how to mount it yourself. The single sheet of instructions with a few dark, small black and white photos will not help you. The color pictures here are better. Basically, you unscrew the bracket which comes configured for an HT and screw it onto your radio's mobile bracket. That then attaches to the cup-holder mount itself via the ball mount.

I didn't want to drill holes anywhere in my truck to mount my dual band radio so I tried this. Obvious downside is it takes away a cup holder. Sometimes its in the way when I need to get in the console. If you turn the radio to the side it loosens in the cup holder. Overall it is a good compromise to drilling. It is fairly sturdy and keeps the radio handy.

I like how easy and functional this product is. Good design and the material is good for the application. I only wish that this cup holder had two radio clips instead of one.

Fits as described, hold my radio well only wish I would have bought a mic mount at the same time.

Despite the claim that the mount is compatible with the TYT 9800, it is not. The bolt for the cupholder mount is too large for the radio's mobile bracket. I attempted to make it work anyway, but the mount is so flimsy that it will not hold the weight of the radio at any sort of angle. It would be fine for an HT, but little else. I am returning and would not recommend purchase.

Product is as described. A little disappointed that the item is plastic but seems to be holding up alright.
