Thick plastic. I doubt this will crack unless it's my fault. You have lots of placement points on the mount it's very adjustable to accommodate whatever angle/height/direction you need your rod sitting. You can change all of that fast too.I also like the fact that you can lock your rod in it

Very glad I had bought this rod holder. I am able to reach it a lot better due to the extension. Super study and good quality. I did not use this for my track I ended up mounting it inside my kayak closer to me. The ONLY CON - Spinning poles will only work properly if you have a long pole. It will not hold short poles but if you turn the pole up it can slide in the holder so you can lock the “theft deal†but still doesn’t hold the pole in place while trying to kayak it’s a pain. Other than that great purchase and I’m happy.

I am using this rod holder for light to medium situations, not sure if I would use this for Big Catfish rod holder, but, we will see. After I catch a Big Catfish I will add an update review.

Used it on my Hobie Lynx h-rail. The rectangular base sits more firmly on the rail than those other round shape mount.
