I am a 70 year old female disabled veteran. I am often in a wheelchair or on crutches. I try to keep mobile and as useful as I can. My husband sawed limbs off a tree outback (following storm Irma) and I put to task me cutting the side branchs off the main limb. Majority of the time it simply cut through the branch(s). There were some that were 3/4 thick. This brought into play the ratcheting side of things. At one point for the largest (perhaps more than 3/4") I pushed one handle against the other and put the one handle against my wheelchair arm). Ratcheted 3 times and bingo..cut. They are somewhat heavier than previous loppers. But, look at the reason WHY. First, they are telescoping...that means inside the handles are another SET of handles to reach out. Yep heavier. They are ratcheting so that makes for a slightly heavier head. LOVE THEM. We used to have another type of ratcheting loppers. You just "twisted" the handles to pull out the inner handles. Problem was...when you went to cut they would "untwist" so every time you went to cut with the longer ones they would "un telescope" to the shorter version. AGHGH It was uselesss. The knobs on the end which allow you to "'lock" the telescoping parts out is just fantastic. So if you are looking for a versatile set of loppers this is your baby here. If you want a lightweight tool that can be used only for shorter uses and non ratcheting look elsewhere. I doubt that you can find a telescoping ratcheting pair of loppers lighter weight. seriously it is double handled (one set of handles inside the other for telescoping) so just think what it would be like having a near "40 inch" pair of loppers. They will be heavier... because they are longer. This is NOT the fault of this pair of cutters. It is what it is.....versatile...extremely effective and enough so we have ordered a second pair. Don't bother if you want lightweight..short..and limited. Not sure about the person who said they used it and the handle bent like butter. Can't figure that one out at all. handles are strong extended or inside each other. My husband took these and then used it on some other limbs he did not want to use chain saw on. He loved them. Easily cut through smaller items....and the ratchet worked like a dream for the other limbs. Fantastic...for our needs.

This is a very sturdy product and that's great. Heavy to use for me since I'm a smallish woman with a bit of arthritis. It cuts cleanly though and easily and I used it for a good bit of work. The adjustment on the handles is well made and the lock option keeps the handles from sliding while you are working. Makes a long reach much more doable and steady. Works great on bigger branches.

I Bought these because the fiberglass non-extendable ratcheting pare I have hid themselves at a time of need. The ratchet mechanism works fine to reduce work load, however it's a little sensitive and it's easy to skip ratchet levels, which of course steals some of the leverage, with practice that get's better but I'm a tool guy, so if I noticed the sensitivity, you may as well. The extendable arms are easy and quick to function, a light twist at the end of the grip releases and locks it easily enough that it's ALMOST a one-handed job while you steer your lawn tractor. This feature is great for getting up a little higher for LIGHTER DUTY branches and reaching out from your lawn tractor to snag some stuff as you pause without getting up.I have a mix of black-walnut, overgrown willows, oaks, and some softer wood varieties like evergreens on my property. On thicker and harder branches the extensions are NOT functional for additional leverage only for reach in my opinion. I was hoping they would serve as both, and while the blade is sharp enough and cuts fairly well, extending the arms on thicker or harder branches quickly leads to the arms bending.I haven't bent or damaged them in any way thus far in 3 weeks of use (which involved a pretty good amount of trimming time, probably 4+ hours of trim work) however I certainly could kink the arms and get them stuck or completely destroyed if I pushed the limits of the extendable arms.As a result, I only cut thicker things with the arms retracted. Otherwise, it works nearly as well as my other unit but provides me with nearly 2' longer reach which is very helpful when I'm riding around on the lawn tractor and just want to snag the pesky thorny vines that keep poking out of my hedges and other areas here and there and get in the way or to trim light things that are too low for my truck to drive under without having to go get a ladder or stand on a tailgate to reach, etc.

Already several months in use. Very well designed ratcheting action combined with telescoping handles makes them both very powerful and also convenient in close quarters. I was cutting heavy palm leaves and mulberry branches as thick as I could grab with fully open blades. Slicing effortlessly through wood and no signs of fatigue on the tool. I was pruning my two palm trees three mulberry trees and two peach trees. Before reaching for the saw I was testing this heavy duty cutter to full extent. And for those getting confused easily - to extent handles turn end knobs about 90 deg, one clockwise and the other anticlockwise.
