This pad is great. It's not very quiet, but the point of a good pad is to feel like your playing on an actual snare drum. If you want quiet then you should get one of those pads with like 10 inches of rubber on the top. And I think it feels pretty realistic. It's easy to tune with the included tuner. Great rebound. Love the color. Very durable and sturdy. I was scared at first it would be to small but nope. Perfect. I would definitely be buying the next size up too. I honestly love this pad. And it isn't too expensive. Most high end pad is 50 at least. But this works just fine. Gets the job done. If your looking for a cheap pad this is the one. Also I know this doesn't mean anything but it's so pretty. The plastic head is a little reflective. And the black and red cors are vibrant and solid. It has been a year and it's still like new. Not really any scratches. Not holes. Hasn't lost its tune. Y'all, this pad is awesome.

It works just like all the 5-star reviewers said it would. It is small, but I read that’s good for target practice for where my daughter is hitting the head with the tips of the sticks. It’s not meant to be sound-absorbing, and it isn’t. It has a good amount of sound to hear if you are playing the song correctly, and a much better feel than the random objects she was previously playing off of. But it’s not as loud as a drum. It even screws on to her xylophone stand if we take the xylophone off. It’s also so portable and was a good price.

So the best thing about this pad besides it just being a great, bouncy drum pad w/replacable head is that you can screw it on top of most cymbal stands so you don't have to buy a new stand for it. You can also just prop it up on your lap or a table or chair and play. The coated head provided can also support some brush word (although I'd recommend the larger pad if you are going to do alot of that. Most importantly for me it has that it has rims so you can practice rimshots or use the rim to substitute for another drum or cymbal/hi-hat. This will create noise - not as a great as real drums - but if you live in an older apartment it may bother neighbors. I have another pad (from a different company, I'm sure Amazon sells them as well) for late night playing that is softer but doesn't have rims or a coated head for brushes.

"Back in the day," (1980's) this was the gold standard for practice pads, i.e. the type instructors recommended for practicing rudimental or orchestral snare. Since it's more like a snare drum than the gum rubber pads, you can practice playing softer dynamics closer to the rim. It's also very useful that it has a rim (most gum rubber pads lack it), so you can practice playing on the rim. I can't prove it, but it seems to create less impact on the wrists to me than my gum rubber pad; I think there's more cushioning between your wrist and the hard surface below the "head." If you get the version with coated head, you can practice brush playing. And it's tunable, so you have options with the tension. I had my first Remo pad for 35 years; then it was destroyed in a flood. Now I'm on my second one. There is only one downside I've found: it's noisier than the gum rubber pads. I live in an apartment complex with lots of neighbors and open windows around, plus I like to practice at night. So I have one of each type of pad. But the crisper sound of the Remo pad also helps you clean up your technique, since any sloppiness is easier to hear than with the gum rubber pads. If you don't need the absolute quietest pad, I still think of this as the "gold standard" for practice pads.

When struck in the centre of the pad is sounds like something is loose inside, the sound is terrible. And in general it's loud and the sound is not pleasant. Also it cannot be tuned as it's appearance may suggest, when tried to tension the screws the whole plastic body warps but no change to the sound or head tension present. It's a big disappointment for such a big drum brand.
