As you can see from my photos, I used up every bit of available space to open up my wall. I traced the outline of the plate onto a piece of cardboard and then drew a smaller outline about a centimeter smaller in all directions, then I cut it out and taped it to my wall to use as a template. I was removing a three handled ancient shower valve/handles and they were quite far apart. This template covered the gaping hole. I couldn’t go through the wall behind so I did all the work from the shower wall side. The tile was 50 years old and I didn’t want to track down tiles or retile the whole bathroom. This plate and others were my solution and I chose this plate for its size, as I measured how far the faucet handles were and this one would work for me. I accidentally removed one tile but it stuck back on fine, and you can see it in the photo. The Delta single handle shower trim I used had its own plate and that plate fit nicely on top of this plate. The plate is reasonably priced and I think it looks pretty good! But you can check my photo if you like.Installation in my case was tricky because I actually opened up the entire space behind the plate, whereas your application might only require that you just remove the old valve instead of three handles. Removing less wall means easier installation. This plate is made of metal and I found it to be quite sturdy.I am satisfied with it and it looks good in my ancient bathroom. There are simple oval plates available as well. Again I chose this for its width to cover my wide set original faucet handles.

If you have a ginormous hole to cover, this IS your solution! But make sure you have enough clearance between your mixing valve and tub spout. I found that my tub spout was previously plumbed too close to the mixing valve for this cover to fit. Overall, this cover is nicely finished. Comes with excellent cast aluminum mounting ears and stainless hardware.

Had to replace my shower valve going from 2 handle to a 1 handle mixing valve. This meant cutting a large hole in the shower panel to remove them install the new one. This repair plate covered the hole with room to spare. This repair plate was not the cheapest by any means but the finish appeared much nicer in the ad than the other plates I looked at. I am very happy with the chrome finish on the repair plate and it's got some weight to it. Certainly made the price worth it. It matches the finish on the trim pieces we used. This plate was easy to use. There are 2 long metal brace pieces that hold the plate to the back of the wall with 2 screws that hold the brace pieces. Very easy to install.I would recommend to others, it's worth the price.

This works out great with a Moen posi temp valve and trim. Will buy again.

I paired this cover plate with the “ Delta Faucet T14032 Woodhurst†and they both accent each other amazingly

I had to replace the plumbing rough-in on an existing bathtub faucet... When I did it, I didn't think to center the new valve in the old hole so when I finished, the handle fit, but it was a little off to the left... thereby leaving a space in the existing opening when I put on the new cover plate. I felt foolish but then remembered this cover. I bought it, and luckily, it covered the hole and allowed me to not have to redo the entire rough in. So happy it worked out well.

Very poorly packaged, one end was open and hardware was missing, sending it back via amazon. This is the second one I've bought, had no issues with first one. Annoying because it's a nice well made product, chromed stainless steel that adds a distinctive, shiny look.
