Reptiles are ectotherms, which is the scientific word for cold-blooded. This means that they rely on sources of heat that are outside of their own body to keep them warm and to maintain the correct body temperature. In the wild, this would be in the form of sunlight and hot rocks, but, when kept as a pet, it is up to you as their carer to provide them with the correct heating.
What is UVA/B Light and Why do Reptile Need it?
Most reptile need both UVA and UVB light to be healthy. UVA light provides them with warmth and the comfort of sunlight. They need to maintain the correct body temperature to regulate their metabolism, breed, and support their immune system.
Turtles are a good example!
UVB light is also critical for a turtle’s health and wellbeing. They need UVB light to produce vitamin D3. This vitamin is necessary for turtles to metabolize calcium. Without it, their shells and bones will not grow properly. Without enough UVB light, turtles will suffer from metabolic bone diseases that are painful and fatal.
Turtles also need UVB light to properly digest their food. Without it, turtles can suffer from malnutrition and die.

My female red ear slider loves basking in it. Sometimes she would go 1 whole day basking without eating. It was too hot at normal light so I dimmed it down to the lowest setting and the temp on the basking platform is around 90-105 Fahrenheit. I keep my water a little higher so, the light is not too far from the platform, hence dimming the light. The auto off/on feature works. It has 2hr/4hr/8hr. I use the 8hr and it turns on when you set it and turns off after 8 hours. I find this useful as my outlet timer only had 1 outlet for my aquarium light and I did not want to buy a different outlet timer with 2 outlets.I've only had it for about 2 weeks so, we'll see if it withstands in the long run. It does come with 3x 50w bulbs which is nice. Not sure if the UV works as I don't know how to test the UV but, my turtle loves it so, I'm assuming the UV works?... The product also feels sturdy, it's made of metal and not plastic. The clip is also metal with rubber on them so it doesn't scratch your equipment.It is a small light and only lights up part of my medium size turtle basking platform (7'' x 15.5'')Anyways, great buy for the price.

I recently bought the SILICAR Reptile Heat Lamp for my turtle’s habitat, and overall, I’m quite pleased with it. The lamp is easy to set up and the clip is sturdy enough to hold it in place without any issues. The timing and dimming features are really handy, allowing me to adjust the light and heat according to my turtle’s needs.One thing I noticed is that the bulbs get quite hot, so it’s important to keep it at a safe distance from any flammable materials. The UVB/UVA light seems to be doing wonders for my turtle’s health, as he’s more active and his shell looks healthier.However, I did have a minor issue with one of the bulbs burning out quicker than expected. Thankfully, the package includes three bulbs, so I had a spare ready to go.

I got this lamp 37 days ago. It started working then would stop, then would work and stop. I would tighten up the lamp each time and it came on easily so I figure it had something to do with the base and bulb connection. Well it finally would not come on so I thought I would check to find the problem and if loose wire I could fix it. Took it apart and the two wires had arced and it melted part of the connector inside the lamp base. The short wire was burned that much shorter than the longer one. The longer one had a nick in it that arced on the metal arm on the back of the lamp base. Needless to say there was a form of fire inside the lamp base that could’ve gotten worse. AND to top it off it is 7 days out of warranty. A $20 lamp that does in 37 days and could’ve caused a fire? That’s a defective product or defective materials and or labor. Needs to be recalled. DO NOT BUY THIS LAMP. DANGEROUS.

I’ve ordered 2 in the last 11 months and now I will need to order a 3rd one. I may try a different brand. First stopped working after 3 months. The 2nd stopped working after 8 months, starter to flicker then went dead. It is not the bulb but the fixture itself. I do have it on 8 hours a day at a high level (not highest) for my turtle so that could be why. I do like the light options and timer, very convenient.

I have been using one of these in my Dodge Neon when it gets to freezing weather outside. Shining it towards the power steering pump keeps the fluid warm so it's not noisy after being started. This is not the usual thing people use these lamps for but it is another application. Turned all the way up the bulb and base can get quite hot. So be careful where you place your lamp.

I liked this lamp because it was a small size, and worked well with my lizard’s tank. I bought the first one in December, and the lamp lasted almost 3 months. It started to flicker, but stops when you adjust the bulb. This went on for a couple of weeks, then the lamp wouldn’t turn on at all. I tried replacing the bulb, but this was not the issue, so I ordered another heat lamp to replace it. It has been almost 3 months again, and now this one won’t turn on either. It does get very hot in the base of the socket, where the bulb connects, so maybe something is melting inside where I can’t see.

I have never written a review but since there are a lot of choices out there for reptile lamps, I wanted to post this for everyone's safety.This lamp looked to have all the features I was looking for for my turtle's tank: a timer, compact size, full spectrum UV + heat. But within a few days the light wouldn't turn on unless I gave the bulb a little turn (poor connection), then within 8 months the whole lamp shorted with a pop. When I opened up the lamp to see if I could repair it, the inside was a complete mess of frayed wiring--my turtle and I were lucky it didn't start a fire!

Funcionó bien solo por 4 meses, después murió. Amazon no deberÃa permitir la venta de este producto. Paso exactamente como en los otros comentarios, no se le dio uso rudo, y de la nada empezó a fallar, pensamos que era el foco, lo cambiamos y nada. Al quitarle el foco se le ve como si los cables estuvieran quemados.

This light has a sturdy clip for the side of my turtle's aquarium. The different intensities of light and the timer functions are extremely useful. The light came with three light bulbs which was generous. Very pleased with the quality.

Hasta ahora me ha servido y estoy satisfecha con la adquisición para mis tortugas. La lámpara es bonita y se acomoda fácilmente en el terrario o pecera. Me gustó mucho que puedes elegir la intensidad de la luz y también puedes programar el tiempo que deseas que esté encendida la lámpara. Además, viene con 3 bombillas. Al menos la primera que he prendido, funcionó bien.
