Safe Pure Silicone

How did you come up with the idea for this product?

After becoming parents, we spent countless hours researching and worrying about the safety and composition of what we put on and in our children. To our dismay we found many of the silicone items in our kitchen were made of low quality silicone – when stretched it turned white, which is a sign of that the silicone contains fillers. This is referred to as “The Pinch Test” –– if silicone turns white when pinched twisted or pulled, it has fillers. After extensive research on silicone chemistry and production, we developed Platinum Pure silicone, which is the silicone we use in our Platinum Pure and otterlove brand products. Our silicone is made using an innovative and more expensive process than ordinary silicone, but this process creates absolutely no chemical by-products.

What makes your product special?

The Platinum Pure silicone used in our products is made using an innovative and more complex process than common silicone. Our process creates absolutely no chemical by-products. Platinum Pure is an American based company, started by parents passionate about reducing children's exposure to toxins. Our goal is to offer a premier line of quality silicone kitchen and baby products that are designed to simplify life without compromising on quality and safety.

I looked at a bunch of options and am very happy with this choice. These work great for sous vide and I feel assured they are made of sand, not chemicals. No more ziplock plastic degrading into sous vide foods—They’re easy to use, easy to clean, easy to hang/drip dry. The silicone zip-tie thing is reusable and useful. You don’t need the kind that “zips” shut—I suspect those are more trouble that they’re worth. Just hang these from a rack or over the side of your sous vide tub. Works great. Our family of 4 has been using 2 bags for probably 4 months now, no signs of wear. They seem very durable.Very happy with these. Everyone cooking sous vide should have a set.

These silicone sous vide bags work great. I love it that you can wash them in the dishwasher and they are not plastic. It’s a bit fussy to wash them, even just rinsing them before you put them in the dishwasher, but it’s fine. I’m so happy to have a product that works well for the sous vide that I feel confident is much better than plastic and is completely reusable. The silicone seems quite tough. I think they’re going to last a long time even with nearly daily all day use.

First of all, it works. Despite some of the one star reviews, cooking with a water circulator cooker (i.e., sous-vide) does not require that the bag be totally immersed or that it be vacuum sealed. The displacement method works fine, though not perfectly, more on this later. The bags seem to be durable, I have used them for long cooks (18-24 hours). No tears, no giving at the seams. The food came out fine, no aftertaste picked up from the bag, although sometimes the bags have a lingering odor. I have not had a problem with that odor transferring to the next dish in a way that is noticeable. Now for the things I didn't like. It's a nice heavy bag, which should help with durability, only time and use will tell. This thickness, however, makes the bag more prone to float than the thin plastic of a vacuum sealed bag, or a zip lock style bag, both of which I've used. The purchaser may want to consider buying some sous-vide weights. The thickness of the bags also means that not all the air is pushed out; the bags are just too stiff to mold perfectly around the food. In practice, it hasn't hurt the cook yet, but my cooks have been longer, all over 4-5 hours, so I don't know how shorter cook times might be affected.Over-all I'm satisfied. It does what it advertises, and I end up throwing away less plastic.Just an update after using the bag more. There is some staining on the inside of one bag after I did an extended cook with some fresh thyme in the bag. It looks like the bag juices and the thyme left the stains. It doesn't seem to affect the functioning of the bag, it's aesthetic. No other wear and tear is noticeable after a year. When cooking a particularly large steak, I find that I need to leave the meat in the bag a bit longer, 50% more time. Some people may balk at this, but I'm used to long sous vides and I just need to factor this in to timing. I do need to use a bit of extra elbow grease to scrub as oils tend to stick.Overall, still quite satisfied. I find myself using my sous vide more since I'm not concerned about wasting a lot of plastic. I might add an extra half star if Amazon allowed it. Consider my rating 4.5 stars.

I love my Sous Vide but hate the amount of plastic bags I go through. On a whim I thought to search for reusable bags and found these after reading reviews from a couple options. I still have plastic use but these have stopped some of that which I am grateful for.On to the bags themselves, they are thick, durable, and work. They do have a tendency to float so I have to use a strainer or some other method of leverage to keep them well placed after using water displacement method to remove air. They are easy enough to clean and dry by flipping inside out as another person posted and I appreciated.I highly recommend this product after two months of use. I hope they last a long time and expect so as they seem to be well made.

Pros - they do include 'ziptie like' fastners for added security. I like that. Cons - it is actually unexpectedly difficult to get food residue off of these bags. I have no idea why. More importantly, they are too thick to effectively allow for sealing by water displacement. Too fiddly to get the air out of the bags - too multiple tries lifting the food back out and then resubmerging it. Not worth it. I love the idea that it's more pure silicone, but it also has to be easy to use. Thinner bags (I prefer Apple Kore Living's version beause of the thinness) are easier to use.

This bag is awesome, but it takes some getting used to. Because it cannot be sealed in advance by vacuum or displacement, food must be inserted into bag while immersed in the hot cooking water. It is not possible to absolutely eliminate voids/air pockets. Weight to keep food submerged is often required. Meats give up moisture, so the small voids will fill. I find I need to add an extra 15 min for anything cooking 1 hour in vacuum, 20 min for 2 hours or more. The results are great, and I'm not throwing all those plastic bags away to pollute everything. The lack of corners makes cleaning these bags a cinch. Just turn them inside out and soap 'em up.PRO: Completely reusable for a long time to come. Very easy to clean. Durable. Tall bag folds over top of container.CON: its a different technique to get food into the bag. Difficult to completely eliminate voids, add a little cook time and use weights.

Good size, easy to use and very easy to clean. Was concerned about not sealing, but seal off nicely with water pressure. Need to be sure secured at top since not sealed, if fall in water, bag will fill, but has not been issue so far. Only downfall is that can’t double as marinade bag before cooking (b/c doesn’t seal), but not big deal. Would recommend.

A little trickier to use than a vacuum bag, but reusable time as after time. Best of all, you can add liquid to the bag and sous vide that. I tested with a large corned beef with perfect results, and also honey and mustard carrots.

These are very high quality sous vide bags, and would be great for slower cooking applications. They come with adjustable silicone ties which can be used to suspend the bags from above, or over the side of the cooking container. Plus, they're reusable so less waste! Being silicone, they can actually double as a mit or trivet in a pinch.

Super easy to clean..I was skeptical about the fact that it didn't have a closure seal, but that's no problem at all. Works perfectly..Does not float up in the Sous Vide pot..Have done Sous Vide Chicken Maryland with marinade twice now. Finishing in a hot oven to crisp skin..
