I was not sure whether 3" cutter would go smoothly down by 4" main or that it can be handled by my K400 Rigid with 3/8 IW cable. Fortunately, yes on all counts. Previously, I cleared the main drain of roots with an auger than 2" spiral cutter. I have seen pro plummer use something bigger, so I ordered the 3" cutter, although it looked thicker and sharper than for pro plummer used, when they cleared my drain many years ago. Using K400 Rigid, the 3" cutter went in very easily. When it got to spot where roots were, it stopped going in. I backed it up, afraid the cutter was stuck, but it was not. After going back and forth a bit, I tried letting it just work, with K400 rotating it, and it automatically went in a fraction of inch per second, until the it got past where the roots were. Then the cutter went in fast again. Afterward, I could back it out easily. It looks like 3" cutter did not leftover roots from 2" spiral cutter. Very useful and nice tool. Next time, I will just let it work byself from the beginning, when it hits roots.

This is the best tool I have found that I used for cleaning out my drain tile from small roots, grass roots and debris. It cuts through and removes the debris from my tile with ease while continued maintenance is performed. I suggest running a hose with this tool during operation and not to use it as a primary toll to unclog a tile. Start with a punch tool like a 3 or 4 sided bit to chew an opening. Keep in mind that this is only a half inch machine.

Had some roots in a sewer line, plumber couldn't get them out. I have a K50 and had them cut out in 30 minutes. Copper sulfate stopped them growing back.

I tried the 2 inch version and other of the smaller tools that came with my Rigid but still the drain had problems after I thought I had cleared it. The 4 inch line still had roots the the 2 inch tools weren't getting out. ran this 3 inch tool several times and it kept grabbing more roots. It was a bit trickier to feed this larger tool through my particular drain layout, (about 15 to 20 feet in),sometimes had to back it out then back in, but by patience and care I was able to get it cleared and a month later it is still clear. My cable is the smaller diameter of the two available for my machine, so I was very cautious when using the bigger tool, but it worked great. I did have a thought about sharpening the lower edge of the teeth to cut the roots better but never did, just a thought.

So my 1975 townhouse has 2-inch waste lines and 4" drain lines thus I could not use it from the p-trap towards and past the drain pipe, would not fit. I kept it because you never know if someone else may need it to rent my machine. I ordered the 2-inch the next day.

So 3 inches sounds like it would do a great job but it wont go past elbows (90 degrees). On a brand new 4 inch pipe? No problem! But an aged cast iron or ductile iron pipe corrodes over the years and the inner diameter is smaller and theres no way it will fit it through a elbow with it connected to the cable. It fits great in straight shots but if your going through a basement toilet theres no way in heck you can get it through the first elbow on that toilet. This tool would really only be for a clean out with a tee that has adequate room. Its great quality though, i tried to force it down my aged pipe and had sparks flying with no damage to the tool. Live and learn, time to buy a 2 inch.

I have that 400w auger and snake which is so popular, and have used it for two years now. I would say that the machine is useless without this addition. That is, I got the job done before with just the snake, the machine did not add much, but with this attached and spinning in the auger, you can achieve your sewer pipe dreams with even the nastiest back-ups. This was like a thrilling adventure into the belly of the beast. The ultimate cleaning of one's room.
