My toddler learned how to use our deadbolt so we had to find something to keep her from reaching it. This was easy to install and it's very easy to use! Would highly recommend this product!

My 2 year old opens the door for EVERYONE- sometimes he runs outside for the fun of it! Well, we have double doors and so normal baby proofing locks would not work. This was literally the only thing I could find in all of my researching! My husband was happy that this device was easy to install, and because you use the existing screws of the deadbolt, there is no damage to your door, and once your tot gets old enough to not run outside whillie neelie, you can easily just remove the mount lock. That my family thinks about it:My husband says it is a pain. He doesn't like having to unlock a lock, but is super thankful that our son isn't running in the street. My 6 year old dislikes it because she cant answer the door anymore- something that I never approved of in the first place. Thankfully we haven't had any dangerous solicitors yet! My 6 year old understands how it works, but it is physically too hard for her to open.My 3 year old....well he HATES it. He throws a crying fit every time he tries to open it- which, frankly, makes me love this thing even more ;) I think of it like hes saying "Oh mommy, thank you for loving me so much to want to protect me from strangers and cars so I may live to be an adult!" although, he is usually screaming "I hate this thing its stupid!!!"I adore this lock! I admit, it is a tricky pain sometimes and took a while for me to even open it. you almost need 2 hands and a good amount of arm strength to do it. I know my kids are upset they cant open the door, and my husband thinks it is one of those love hate relationships; however, my kids safety is priority number 1 to me. Of course, you do need to take into consideration if there were an emergency in the house- the kids cant escape. I try to explain to my kids that in an extreme emergency like fire, it is ok and they have my permission to break a window, so make sure to do that if.man, I love this thing!Update: I received this product in March, and now it's almost October. The great news is that this thing is still a pain to open, so my kids don't run into the street. However, I will note that the plastic parts are becoming more difficult to turn and open, and sometimes they will stick and it can be frustrating to open the door. The plastic is also shaving off from rubbing against itself, which I suspect is why the knob becomes more difficult to turn. I probably open the door between 6-12 times a day? My 6 year old whom was once semi-easily able to open the door now can not because it has become too difficult from the parts being hard to turn- which is fine, but if there were an emergency and she had to get out of the house would be an issue, but my hubby or I am home all the time, so it wouldn't be an issue for us, but possibly for someone else wanting to purchase this lock? To be frank, I purchased this product expecting for it not to last a super long time- I mean, the parts are plastic and eventually my tot has to learn not to open the door and run in the street, right? The deadbolt lock has still met and exceeded my expectations, I just expect to get a new one for my next child in a few years. If you are say, a nursing home or in care of an elderly, you should know you may have to invest in a new deadbolt cover annually or bi-annually. honestly, it is the only option I could find for double doors. I love that this deadbolt cover was super easy to install and has done zero damage to my door or the handle. I still love it, am pleased with my purchase, and recommend it :)

Our toddler very quickly figured out how to undo the deadbolt on our front door, and the lock on the lower handle is broken. So the slightest push on our front door and it goes flying open unless the deadbolt stays locked. Having a flight of stairs going up to our front door, I'm sure you can imagine the potential danger of a little one shoving open the door and tumbling down.Because of the type of door we have, the way it swings outward instead of in, and the fact that we are in a rental (aka- no permanent screws or fixtures) this left nearly no options for baby-proofing our front door. This was our only plausible, affordable option, so I took the plunge and tried it out.It was relatively easy to install. I did it by myself while my husband was at work the day it arrived because I was anxious to have it installed. The only real trouble was that I had to unscrew the entire fixture a good 15 times to readjust it and get it placed EXACTLY right on the lock so that it would function properly and unlock the door. So it's not that it's particularly difficult to install, so much as the fact that you have to get the placement juuuuuuuust right or else you have to take the entire thing apart again to try again.Once I had the placement just right, it worked wonders though. There is absolutely no way a young child could undo this lock. I'll admit that even I had a bit of difficulty until I got used to using it. (I had to two hand it for the first day or two. Granted, I am a very small woman and have tiny, children's hands, and our front door has to be tugged just right to unlock even WITHOUT a child lock on it. So blame my anatomy and our cheap housing for that I think. My husband can one hand this lock easily sooooo.)Now that it's been installed for a few weeks and we've adjusted, it's been an absolute lifesaver. I love not having to worry about little ones falling out the front door or going out alone. I also love that when we finally move we can just remove it and bring it with us. It will definitely be coming along with us when we do.

So far our 2 year old daughter hasn't been able to open this. This was very easy to install, but it's pretty annoying to use.But I guess that's the point; keep the kids from being able to open the door. The little plastic tabs, that prevent the dial from being turned unless the buttons/paddles are depressed, broke on the 2nd turn. But frankly, they don't add much and are not missed. My wife and I have gotten used to (un)locking this thing, but when other people come over, it's funny to watch them try :p

Even adults have a hard time unlocking the door so it’s great. I got it when my youngster was 2 years old and just bought a new one cause i don’t trust him to this day even at 4 years old. Very satisfied!

Horribly flawed device, and an utter pain to attempt several hopeless micro adjustments to its alignment. This device cannot in any way be aligned to my deadbolt. Utterly useless. Look elsewhere for ANY other alternative. The 'inner blockers' entirely impede rotation of the device, no matter much much I messed with its alignment for over an hour. It has far too narrow a window in which it MAY conceivably work.If you somehow got this aligned as desired, there is an additional concern; the device can be quite easily forced by hand out of alignment once installed. If someone managed to do this, it becomes a severe safety HAZARD (trapping people insude/outside), rather than the safety it is to provide. At this point, if I were to eventually get this properly installed, for this reason alone I would STILL not trust, or advise anyone to use this.Overpriced as well, but I really needed something. This apparently was not the answer though.(Insult to injury - The deadbolt screws were stripped, so a locksmith had to install a new one, so that I could even attempt this in the first place.)
