I got this CAC reader for my personal computer based off the price and reviews.I’ve only used it once and it worked after installing the necessary certificates. It’s small and compact so it doesn’t get in the way!The chip part on the top of the reader lights up red whenever there is nothing inserted.Overall, was it worth the price!Yes!

It does the job. And it is nice to have slots for several types of cards. The corded USB attachment is preferable to what I had before. My previous reader was like a bulky thumb drive which got in the way of other USB slots. After many uses it, died with a bright flash. I ordered a second one of these for my vacation residence.I originally gave this product five stars. But then the second one arrived. I plugged it into my computer and it took about five minutes to transfer one of the photo files I had on an SD card. Then things got worse. My Lightroom program didn't work properly. I thought maybe something was wrong with the computer. Then I pulled the device out of the USB port and things began working properly. I put the SD card in a thumb drive type memory card and the rest of the files transferred almost instantly. Multiple attempts to get this device to work resulted in failure and bad computer performance. It obviously was never tested by the manufacturer. I will be returning for a refund. This started as a five star review, but was downgraded to one star when the I received the defective unit. Within two hours of the posting of the review regarding the defect, the manufacturer contacted me to offer a replacement. I accepted the offer although a little nervous about trying a product that had affected computer performance. I received the replacement, and it works. I would go back to a 5 star rating but for the hassle of dealing with the defective unit.

11/18/14 UPDATE to my original review (see below):Saicoo noticed my review and sent me a replacement reader. On the first use, it seemed to do great -- amazing speed and no problems. On the second use, I noticed that speeds had dropped, but wrote it off to copying HD movies rather than the reader itself. On my third use, the Saicoo destroyed a week-old 64GB micro SDXC card. While the reader plugged in fine and was recognized, different cards plugged into it were not being recognized, although they were readable by my other micro SDXC card readers and by my Surface Pro 3. Stupidly, I left one micro SDXC card in the reader while I was doing something else. When I went back a few minutes later (no more than 5 minutes), I burned my fingers trying to take the card out. Apparently the reader fried my card because now it is not being recognized by any of my other USB 3.0 readers or by my computer. Needless to say, I'm NOT happy!Given my experience with two of these readers now (the original and the replacement), I can not recommend this unit. The price is good, but I've not had any trouble with my Transcend or Anker 3.0 ] readers, both purchased here at Amazon. Lesson learned -- and an expensive one at that given the card it destroyed. My advice: Spend a few more dollars and get a higher quality reader.ORIGINAL REVIEW:This has promise, but I guess I am the unlucky one who got a dud. Only one of the micro SDXC slots allows cards to be inserted. The other slot in the front will not allow cards to be inserted properly, as they go off at an angle and won't fully seat. I am also not getting anywhere near USB3.0 transfer speeds. I was attempting to transfer 65GB of music to the card and it was telling me it would take 16 hours! And yes, I do have USB 3.0 slots that work on my computer (they work just fine with my external USB3.0 hard drive or flash drive, for example). Speeds seem to also be variable, ranging anywhere from 116kb/s to 1.2MB/s. I tried stopping the file transfer and reinserting the reader. It started off at 1.1MB/s and then went up to 11MB/s before dropping again. I expected more, considering that I have a fast micro SDXC card ].I am returning the reader to Amazon for a refund, but am wondering whether others have had a similar experience, as all I see are glowing reviews. Quality control can always miss one, so I'm trying to decide whether I should try another or look for a different reader. I really liked the idea of not having to use an adapter for the card and being able to transfer card-to-card. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy!

Crazy fast, works as described. I tested copying the same files from my camera's card using the pc's built-in reader: over 20 minutes. Copied via this reader on usb3: less than 20 seconds.

This is a very practical device, and a good alternative to some other USB card readers. The main feature I like is the flying lead. I've used fixed USB card readers in the past, and they are either too bulky for laptops, or worse, provide a nice sticky-out bit on tower cases for you to hit your knee on and shear off. The small plug nearly eliminates both these problems.Further to it's credit is the USB 3.0 connection, that really does speed up reading all those 24MP pictures off my camera. I've not timed it against anything else, but the speed increase over USB 2.0 devices is quite marked.I may not have much use for the dual slots, but it does provide a backup slot in case, like my internal card reader, the contacts become worn and intermittent. As this is probably the main reason for failures, you're almost getting two readers for the price of one!In all it's a good design, works well and appears to be reliable.
