Let It Rain

The H201 shower radio is IPX7 water resistant, making it not only resistant to splashes but also submersion underwater. When dropped in the water, it’ll float right back.

Prepared for The Worst

In the event of an emergency, you can rely on the H201 as a backup flashlight to guide you through the dark. The emergency buzzer gives off enough volume for people around the vicinity to be notified.

I purchased this updated model to replace another by the same brand that I had for about five years. The older one’s buttons started to malfunction a bit.I love Sangean radios as they offer real sound. Not some cheap and tinny transistor radio sound. Nice bass and sounds great. This model also has much easier buttons to navigate, and that makes things easier for me with my less than stellar vision.Highly recommend this one!

But they still rate fine because they handled the broken one very nicely. I like how the batteries get stored in the radio but only become engaged when there is no power from the plug in. Sometimes, I start the timer and I still don't know how it happens.

When I ordered this I failed to notice it was a refurbished unit so I was skeptical when it arrived. However, it was in great shape...it looked brand new and it's performed as well as a new radio. I'm very happy with it. Plus I saved some money over purchasing the new radio.

Great radio.Weather feature works great.Sound quality (for music) could be much better but that's not what this radio is for.Seems to be well made.

Love this radio, it gets in stations on my car can get, is great for the bathroom, have it on the top of the siding doors frame, this is our second one, it is great in storms because of the long battery life. We love being able to pre set our stations. This one is for my laundry room and I got the power cord to go with it. The flash light is bright, not that we have needed it yet but had to test it.

Really irritates me that that the wall charger is $18.00 extra.

I’m reviewing the H2O1 radio from Sangean. A few things to note about this radio, some of which are related to its being waterproof and intended for the shower (thus are design features), yet they can still affect your user experience. I’ll give some facts, and some opinions. Note: The complete manual is online by pdf for this radio, and if you’re buying it, please read that first.Weight (including D cell batteries): 44.2 ounces, which is 2 pounds 12 ounces on my scale.Headphone jack: NoneBluetooth, Internet radio: None.Handle: retractable, and placed toward the back of the unit (rather than directly across the top of the unit like most radios) making it front heavy when carrying or placing on a hook or shower head.Presets: 5 for AM, 5 for FM1, 5 for FM2.. Easy to set, one button. WX May have presets also, but there are only 7 stations to begin with.Volume: Only up and down is by pushing buttons, no wheel. Will make you appreciate the radios that have a volume wheel or knob, both for ease of use as well as more precise volume control (rather than locked into the “steps” dictated by the buttons).WX Direct, one button access to weather radio: Sadly, no. One must hit Band button several times to scroll thru bands to WX, then hit button again more than once to return to the band you were listening to originally. Never used the Weather Alert to know if it works.FM reception: Okay, but not great. Without wire antenna hanging out from back, reception is fair, at best. With the wire deployed from the back, FM reception is better, but not as good as a standard telescoping antenna. The wire is more of a nuisance that one would imagine as it hangs beneath the radio, easy to yank when one is moving the radio...this is a non-issue if the radio is parked in the shower, however. Note: There is FM2, which is same band but gives five more tuning memory options, thus FM has 10 memories.AM reception: Very good, internal ferrite bar antenna, but directional though, and a 1/2 turn of the radio can make huge differences in reception (so before mounting in a shower, try it first to determine angles). As good as a dedicated SW AM FM radio? No.SW reception: No shortwave, TV, CB, or other reception, just in case you were wondering.Nap feature: Can set a one button adjustable nap feature to play radio then a buzzer, for instance, an hour later to wake you from a nap. An easy to use feature for those of us that nap but must wake up on time, useless for those that don’t.Sleep timer: Yes, and works well, easy to use (see online manual for details and timer choices).Colors: White and pink. Everyone has white, so pink is more novel.Time: Hours, minutes, and seconds. Always on even when listening to radio (the radio station is not displayed after the first few seconds when turning).Tuning: By push buttons, does have seek and scan. No knob turning. No Dx Local switch. Annoyingly, first hit on tuning button simply wakes the radio into tuning mode, then next pushes tune the radio, I.e. you’ll be hitting the tuning buttons a lot.Light: Stays on while pushing buttons, then turns off after a few seconds once stop pressing any buttons. No dedicated button to keep the light on at all times.AC Power: No AC power cord included, available from Sangean directly for twenty bucks, or third party sellers for 2/3 that price. Using power not only introduces interference when listing to all but the strongest signals, but also makes the unit not waterproof. AC connection to radio is under a rubber seal.Battery: Two D cells, battery indicator on screen at all times. Long duration, how long exactly I don’t know.Speaker: Single, small, good quality sound. Front facing. No adjustable tone control at all.Flashlight: Small LED, one button on and off, doubt I’d think of using it in an emergency.Waterproofness: As with any new waterproof device, test it during the return period (30 days on Amazon). Took it in the shower and drenched it throughly. Kept ticking, no issues, including speaker. The gaskets, esp battery compartment, work well. The FM antenna storage area does get wet and hold water, it’s not gasketed like the battery compartment next to it. No issues after drenching (not submerging) the radio.Construction: Heavy duty plastic, no rattling parts because everything is with rubber gaskets. Has rubber feet.Volume: Loud enough for close listening, shower listening, but not loud like a boom box. For outdoors use, such as at poolside or work site, it’s not loud enough.Bottom line: There aren’t many waterproof radios in the market these days, and if you must wet the radio in bathtub, swimming pool, etc., it’s one of your few options. If you plan to use it as a general use radio, emergency radio, weather radio, DXing radio, nighttime sleep radio, bedside radio, then there are many options that are better than this radio at this price. I would not recommend this H20 radio for general use. Hope these observations can be helpful to you.
