This is a true travel water filter. I use for my camel pack and it really does what it said it would do. I use it every time I go for a hike and the water is always filtered and never has a taste to it.

Love this filter! It takes a bit longer than normal to drink from your water bladder but I found it so convenient to be able to just dunk my water bladder in a stream or lake when I’d come across them during my 98 mile backpacking adventure. I wound up still boiling water at the end of my day to fill my wide mouth water bottle to keep well hydrated but this is so convenient for on the trail!

RapidPure has produced this in-line filter as well as a filter bottle, the filter bottle top and filter section alone, and a "straw", which looks to be just the filter bottle filter section with a longer straw.POSITIVES: 1. Survives a freeze; 2. Provides filter element replacements at a reasonable cost; and 3. Effective against viruses for a limited time/volume of water; 4. May not clog as readily as other traditional filters.NEGATIVES: 1. At this point does not offer a "bottle top" screw on solution like more traditional filters - a definite marketing miss; 2. Indefinite timeframe/volume protection against viruses.BEST USES: 1. The Travel Bottle is a great solution for vacations to places with questionable water... replacing the filter for a next trip is economical and easy insurance. 2. The bottle top filter assembly fits Nalgene 1L and 700mL bottles (I've done this) so that product breathes new life into those Nalgene's sitting around for similar uses as the Bottle Filter on vacations and day hikes. 3. The in-line filter can be connected between bladder and bite-valve as intended... again, replacing the filter is economical and easy. The in-line filter can also be connected with or without a pre-filter for a gravity feed filtration setup, and it can be connected by adapters and caps to any number of bottles, though it's a bit awkward setup compared to traditional screw-on filters. 4. The "straw' seems a bit too "exposed" compared to available "straw filter" products, all of which are for emergencies rather than "replaceable filter element" use - I'd pass on that offering.A SETUP: Consider a HydraPak 2L or CNOC 2L soft bottle to collect water, use with a female valve cap, this in-line filter, and a section of hose with a bite valve.TIME WILL TELL: How long / how much water will the RapidPure continue to filter... whether a pre-filtering (e.g., paper coffee filter) will help extend life/flow rate.

I converted this one into a gravity filter and it works flawlessly. I previously used the Sawyer Squeeze but it freezes up too much when you let it sit for a period of time and, I also left it out in freezing temperatures on accident which renders it useless now.Pros:Virus protectionCan be converted to a gravity filter. The filter can be in freezing temperatures without damage.Activated Carbon filter to improve taste and clarityCons:The filter does not last as long as competitors, but it also includes a carbon filter and filter viruses so it is worth the trade-off. This will provide the typical backpacker with at least 4/5 years worth of filtration before purchasing a replacement filter.Update: I brought this with me to the BWCA for its first true test. Very clear water with little sediment and the filter clogged up after about 1.5 gallons. Do not recommend!

Works well. I brought this to replace a sawyer filter that locked up after being stored. This filter allows you to change out the center saving lots of money. It worked well during first uses. I hope this model sticks around.
