Got this for a new diver friend of mine who is a bit nervous still, said just pull the orange bit off and shake the heck out of it at any time if you want my attention. Worked great, easy to use with or without gloves, clear sound underwater.

Like the size and functionality but the elastic that holds the red cover has a tendency to Untie. If you loose the cover it will make noise all the time and that’s just annoying

This works but just having it makes me more comfortable. Did our first ocean dive in the Dominican Republic last week and I was nervous about but my husband and I both got one and I didn't need to use it thank goodness but my husband tested it and it works great. Our guide uses his often to show us things and I felt more comfortable knowing I could get their attention if I need to.

One drawback is that the cap is kinda hard to take off. Otherwise seems great - will update once I used it.

Rattle produces quite a loud and distinctive sound. I was able to attract attention of my buddy with it (though tried only once so far, but seems loud enough to me). It is easy to remove cap and sound it with one hand. A few things you need to know if you buy it:1) After using, you need to close the cap and then turn the rattle in cap-down position, so that ball falls down and reattaches to the cap and sound stops.2) Shaking with enough force it is actually possible to produce a sound even with cap being on. Might be too quiet underwater though.3) After purchasing, you need to re-tie the rope used to attach the cap. Some reviewers said they lost their caps, and the rope is much longer than it needs to be. I made it a loop instead of one-way rope so the cap is close to the rattle after being removed (makes it easier to close after using), and I re-tied the knot and put some superglue on it.4) Magnetic cap will throw off the electronic compass in your dive computer if you touch the cap with the computer, compass will need to be re-calibrated if this happens.

Magnetic cap is the clincher, it kept the device completely silent until needed. Its small compact size allows for easy storage...produced a very distinctive chime sound, while the sound does not carry as far as the sound of beating on a tank with a metal rod, it is as i said a very distinctive chime sound and I had no issues signalling my dive buddy from 10 yards+
