It is easy to loose your knife if something hits the release... so get a little stretch cord to put through the handle and pull it over the end of the sheath to hold the knife in place. This is the best knife that I have ever used for spearfishing. (For the money - the steel needs sharpened often!)

I bought one of these knives and on my third dive with it I returned to the boat and my knife had fallen out of the sheath without me noticing. I really liked the knife though, so I bought a replacement. This knife didn't make it back from the FIRST DIVE! Both times they were just easy sight seeing drift dives. I'm positive my knife didn't get knocked by anything. Apparently the sheath needs some redesign work. Until that happens, I'm not buying another.

I don't believe the metal used in this knife to be of super quality. I spent five days diving off the coast of San Clemente Island and would dry all gear (plus this knife) after each dive. Unfortunately, the blade began to actually "rust" after a week of use and this was even after cleaning and drying it after each dive. The case is a little more bulkier than expected, but I won't ding that. You will want to make sure to dry out the case after each dive though (water likes to hide in this, so remove your knife and keep the plastic sheath upside down for drying purposes).

I'm not sure how it fell off but the knife was properly secured when I got in the water.
