This mat gets fairly hot and there is no way to control the temperature. It is either on or off. Works well for peppers which like a hot temperature for germination. The medium in which I planted my pepper seeds was consistently in the 90 degree range, which is a bit hot for seeds like tomatoes. If you do not have the money for a mat with a thermostat, you can make this work. For example I was germinating some seeds in a baggie/paper towel method and I used an empty thin box (like the kind decongestants come in) to put a layer of air between the seeds and the mat. That worked. So, while it is less than ideal, it can work with a bit of monitoring and ingenuity.

I bought this heating mat because we keep our house cool and it takes my sourdough bread dough a long time to proof. So far, after several uses, it still maintains the right temperature to proof my sourdough in a very short time. Recommend.

I like that these are larger than the standard size mats. I also like that the connector comes out of the side, so that the top of the mat is flat. They are nice and warm as well.

Trying out seedlings and was looking for a cheap but reliable heat pad and this served that purpose. It is nothing fancy - no temp options to work with - just plug it in and it maintains a predetermined temperature.

This worked great ... kept my germinating seedlings at a constant temp. The zinnias germinated in 4 days.
