I've had one of the black type for years that I recently lost. My old one had a metal slider, this one has plastic. The metal is a little flimsier, but for the price and date of manufacture (they don't make anything like they used to!) perfectly adequate.The green and yellow one adds a 2.5" bar for easier marking. It also discreetly clicks into place each 1/8th inch. It also has a clear plastic circular insert on the end. It took me a bit to figure out it's use. Anchor the insert through the pinhole and you can mark a perfect circle! It's all plastic, so I am not sure how long it will last, but again, for the price I am happy.

These are both very sturdy measuring tools and they both work exactly as they are intended to. My only wish would be that they came in some kind of pouch or bag to keep them in so I can find them in with all of my other sewing things.

Both pieces measure accurately, and the plastic ruler is fine. But when I adjust the slider on the metal guage, the whole piece bends. It is very thin, and I have to flatten it back into shape each time. It must be aluminum, because my magnetic pin trays don't hold it in place. I wish it was a better quality tool.

Needed to replace an old seam ruler. Good value for the money.
