This is a must have for any machinist. Accurate and big dial. Priced just right.

Great indicator.Does what and indicator does.Repeats and has decent movement.

I bought mine from Shars. Black face. Been using it for about 2 years. Repeats well, better than expected, and adjusting its bezel isn't too crunchy. Good for static readings, which is how I use it. Dynamically, say, placed on a lathe, its response is slow compared to my better TDIs (Swiss B&S, Interapid, even a Mitutoyo). Hysteresis is not great. Noticeable. Its value depends on its application.

These have a slightly larger face than other indicators. Good for readability, bad for tight spaces?Shars is China, but so-called "premium China". This is not a bad product for the price if you don't demand USA- or Japan-made.

The dial is easier to read, the scale action is smooth and consistent. I haven't had any issues keeping tolerance or zeroing in parts with this so as far as I'm concerned it's a no-brainer for this price.

Haven’t used extensively but seems like good quality

The needle will not move smoothly, it jumps 5 or 6 increments at a time. Not even close to a Brown & Sharp. I've had other Shears products and found them to be very reliable but this one is of no value as a .0001" indicator.

Second Shars gauge unit: This is our 2nd such instrument received after returning the 1st unit.Amazon score = 3 stars; better, but still has quality/functional issues.Shars 0.0001" incremented horizontal dial indicator is acceptable but with limitations. Needle/dial readings are accurate within approx. 0.00005" when moving the probe towards the plane of the dial/face, which at first appears to be very good. However, when moving the probe in its other/opposite direction (i.e. away from dial/face plane), the needle stutters/jumps in the dial region of 0.00065"-to-0.00075" (i.e. at about 3/4 sweep, analogous to 8:30-11:30 on a clock dial). The Shars cannot be trusted for accuracy in this range. So, it is acceptable with limits, considering its value price, but realize that this particular unit does have a blackout/unusable zone for some of its measurement range. Our first Shars gauge summary: Amazon score = 1 star. unacceptable/rejected.Could not perform measurements. Needle very erratic: jumps and stutters when attempting measurements. The first Shars 0.0001" incremented horizontal dial indicator was rejected and returned to Amazon for refund/exchange.Acceptance tests were performed using NIST calibrated digital mic (10X greater precision level Mitutoyo) and metrology table.
