Summary: Don't buy this if you actually intend to secure it from thieves or burglars for more than a minute. Due to a design flaw, the thickness of the shaft is illusory. It also uses screws instead of exterior carriage bolts to hold the lock to the door, which again, shows very little thought has gone into the design of this lock. This might work where security isn't a concern and you need a lock just to keep critters, animals and the weather outDetails:This lock makes extensive use of worm screws instead of stronger bolts. This isn't usually a problem except there are two terrible design mistakes that makes this really easy to break:1. The tiny worm screw that attaches the lock head to the square metal shaft doesn't go all the way through the shaft. Instead, for reasons unclear to me, they created a notch along the perimeter of the shaft head that this tiny worm screw then screws into. This completely compromises the thickness of the shaft and creates a terribly weak connection that can be easily broken by a thief or burglar in a few seconds. It would have taken less effort to create a hole through the shaft and have the screw or a bolt go from one end of the lock head to the other, creating a way stronger attachment. My current lock uses this design so there are locks out there that are more secure.2. They use Phillips head screws to attach the lock head to the door frame. Again, it's immediately apparent that this seriously compromises the security of the lock - a thief or burglar can take these screws off from the outside using an automatic screwdriver in just a few seconds. Now I typically go and buy exterior carriage bolts to replace the screws but this lock head is a bit too small and doesn't have enough space on it to allow an exterior carriage bolt to fit nicely into the countersunk cutouts where the screw heads sit. My only other option would have been to expose the exterior carriage bolts to outside the countersunk cutout which allows any thief or burglar to use a strong bolt cutter to just cut the bolts heads off. My current lock uses this more secure design so there are locks out there that are more secure. All in all, this isn't something I would use outside to secure a shed where thieves or burglars are an issue. At $17 it was cheap enough where it wouldn't be worth my time to take it off, put the old one back on and return this but if you're considering this for your shed, just move on. and don't waste your time.I will be ordering a few other designs and see if they are any better ones that have thought about their security a bit more seriously. My current lock, that thieves damaged while trying to unsuccessfully break into, came with the shed - unfortunately they don't make it anymore so I have to now go on a treasure hunt to find something similar.

The key doesn't work. I can insert it, but it won't turn left or right. It's frustrating because I removed my old lock, and now I can't secure my door with this one.

I use this on my woodshed door. I like the fact that it is lockable and adjustable for different door thicknesses. A very high quality product.
