I purchased this with the thought of using it to reduce stress and fall asleep by listening to a measured, constant rhythmic sound. Unfortunately the sound is much to loud for that application. I realize it wasn’t designed for that use. I took a shot. However. It pleasing to see the mechanism within the transparent body, the spring seems sturdy due to the tension felt while winding it. I used one setting and it appeared to keep a constant time. I gave five stars because of what I noted of its appearance and limited performance test/sampling. I am not a musician so I cannot speak to its performance while trying to keep time while playing a musical piece. Still, like its appearance.

I've been a hobbyest musician for a long time, over 50 years. I've had a lot of metronomes and drum machines that I've used for time keeping. Right now I have a Korg and about 3 different apps but I've never had one of these clock work or as they were known, a Maisel metronome with the swinging arm even though I've aways had a romantic attachment to the idea of having one. If you're reading this you proably know how much a "real" one with the wood case costs. As such when I was offered the Silpaks to review I leapt at the chance. With that long intro here's a short review. It works exactly as it's supposed to. The clicks are even on both sides of the arm swing. You pull out the spring wind post to get it to ring on the down beats every 4,3, or two beats. Every now or then the bell fails to ring or is faint. I find that that is usualy a sing that it needs a few winds of the main spring. The "tocks" of the metronome are surprisingly loud, I can even use it with the cajon and it's way plenty loud when you playig fff on the acoustic piano. I took off one star because the sound quality isn't quite as pleasant as a woodcase version which we know are quite a bit more expensive that this bargain.Summing up, I'm highly pleased with it and it lives on top of the piano where I use it just about every day over the metronomes I mentioned above. Highly recommended.

My boys actually use it! They like to see the mechanics working inside. It’s reliable and nice looking with our decor

The clear plastic is very fun. It does seem to work well… which is the important part. We are JUST starting to use it as there was an Amazon screw up in delivery.

This is a fabulous metronome! I’m a music teacher and have purchased one for my classroom and now one for my house after using the first one for over a year. It’s cool to see the gears work inside. It works just like the one I grew up with.

I didn’t even know a metronome could be off time wise, but this one is. It doesn’t keep consistent time, which is the whole point! Plus, the number plate came off. I had to tape into place.

This is a functional metronome and its unique clear appearance is a conversation topic!
