SKB's engineering team has addressed these travel issues with a bold innovated design, and futuristic molding techniques. The 1SKB-44RW ATA Electric Bass Case has been re-designed to accommodate a secure closure with the new TSA recognized strap closure to meet the needs of the traveling musician. This is designed to work the majority of standard gig bags such as the SKB 1SKB-GB44.

Lightweight with great wheels. This is my second case. Now I have one for the P Bass and the J. Both slide into case effortlessly inside their respective gig bags.

It is great! Never have been so much confident with the health of my bass guitar going on the plane. It will be nice for the people handling the luggage in the airport, to be more careful with the fragile equipment, and not needing this SKB but this is not the case.So I'm very happy about this buy

I've had this case for several years ready for travel. Last year I used it and United broke the strap that keeps both parts together. I got it repaired free of charge. I used it again this year with American and they also broke the strap. It was unrepairable. Great idea but not constructed right.

I've always been a great fan of SKB cases and I regret that this is my second negetivw review of one of their products. I have three of the older version of this case. That is the version with the "snap" latches on each side that others have complained about. I travel internationally with my basses a lot and these older cases have been great, but the older latches can be awkward to fasten and sometimes seem to be beyond the limited skills of some TSA employees. When I saw that SKB had released the new "TSA friendly version" with the strap fastening and TSA appoved lock.I decided to spend the money for the "upgrade". The case arrived with the metal lock snapped off from the strap! Closer inspection revealed that the lock, which is not lightweeight, was attached to the strap by two small pieces of plastic that simply broke off! This is my second negative SKB review because I was using an SKB gig bag where the strap was attached by a plastic ring that snapped while I was caarrying the bass, reulting in my bass hitting the ground! I am very disappointed in SKB as I have at five of there older equipment cases, in addition to my three bass cases, that I use for transporting amps and speakers and have always recommended their products. Now it appears that SKB products are unreliable because they are using cheap plastic at stress points. I shal continue to use their older cases that have lasted very well! Now some big praise for Amazon!! I had a problem because I am currently in Mexico. The case was shipped to a student of mine who brought it to me from the US. He brought it to me in the shipping carton, not knowing it was faulty. I called Amazon and asked for extended time to return it as I won't be back in the US until March. They waived their usual return policy and gave me a full refund! Thanks so much to Amazon for bailing me out of a useless purchase.!

I've had this case before, and love having my gig bag on a flying gig. The trouble I consistently have is with the airport inspections. If BOTH latches are not relatched, one side latch takes a rough beating as the two ends of the case move and flex. Consequently, that latch exposed to the rough treatment gets bent out of shape. That is how the first case came to its premature end. Nonetheless, I've replaced it with a second case ... and upon arrival from its first flight, one side was unlatched. A silver sharpie now has written instructions next to each latch, assuming the inspectors at the airport are courteous enough to read.

Really helps alot. I no longer have to carry my bass through airport like a backpack. So much easier to roll it and send it down like normal luggage. Worth paying extra baggage fee.

Firstly, I’m a huge fan of this product! After several years of issues with airline staff about lack of cabin space for my bass guitar I decided to give this case a try. Since then, my experience has been fantastic, until today. I just returned from playing a gig in New York, only to find out that the latch had broken during the TSA inspection (see photos). I wish the company could create a more solid locking mechanism (perhaps steel), which is the only reason I’m giving them 2 stars.

The strap replacing the previous model's metal clasp is a mistake imo. It doesn't feel as secure and I've read that this can break. So I make sure I tape it up before travelling and I also tape the handles of the lower half to the top. So far my case has done around 20 international flights and it's still intact. But I owned the previous design and this newer one makes me nervous - hence the extra precautions. I would recommend to despite this, just perhaps take the time to secure that strap further. Also make sure you use the coded lock as this secures the clasp properly.
