These test strips work as they should. They are easy to use and seem to be accurate. I would buy them again.

We got this to figure out what was wrong with the soil in a bare patch that appeared in our front lawn. Our dogs do not go to the front lawn, and the spot is too far back from the road to suspect a dog walker would be letting their dog continuously "fertilize" just that one spot.We couldn't tell much from smelling the dirt. You'd think urine or something from a wild animal using the same spot all the time would leave a trace smell even a human could detect. So, this soil tester seemed like the next step in the investigation. After putting in two spoonfuls of dirt from the surface soil, then adding water, we waited about a half-hour and used a test strip. Everything looked normal, which was confusing. SOMETHING made this bare spot appear and kill the grass that was there. Thinking we didn't mix it right or something, we used two slightly more heaping spoonfuls to prepare a new batch with water, waiting an hour this time, then trying a strip again. This time it worked, and it was around 8.0-8.5 on the pH scale. We don't know if we made a bad mix the first time or had a bad test strip because we changed too many variables in the experiment at the same time. However, the alkalinity made us believe it really was animal urine depositing and converting to excess nitrogen in the soil. Could have been a fox or raccoon or something favoring that spot.Regardless of the animal, we started to treat that spot with a pH reduction powder we had for hot-tub use. Sprinkled it, hosed it into the soil. Waited a week. pH testing showed lower than before. Repeated the treatment and got it to just under 7.0pH, after which we waited a week and seeded the spot. Grass grew within two weeks.Seems like a rather micro-focused method of lawn maintenance, but we couldn't figure out how or why that one dead spot formed in the lawn, and this testing kit certainly helped us to measure and track the changes we made to the soil to fix our lawn. We just need to use two or three strips to average out each test attempt.

Here's a rewritten review:Adequate but Lacking in Guidance: HappyLong Soil pH Test Kit ReviewI recently purchased the HappyLong Soil pH Test Kit, which includes 100 soil pH tester strips and a test tube with a 3.5-9 pH range. While the strips appear to function as intended, I was disappointed to find that the kit completely lacks instructions. As a gardener, I understand the importance of accurate pH readings to ensure optimal growing conditions for my plants. However, without any guidance on how to properly use the strips, I had to rely on my own research and trial-and-error to get started. This lack of instruction is a significant oversight, especially for those who may be new to soil testing. The strips themselves seem to provide accurate readings, but I couldn't help but feel that I was missing out on valuable information that could have been provided with a simple instruction manual. For example, what is the ideal pH range for different types of plants? How often should I test my soil? What are the potential consequences of incorrect pH levels? In comparison to other soil pH test kits on the market, I've found that many offer more comprehensive instructions and guidance. While the HappyLong kit is functional, it falls short in terms of user experience and educational value.Overall, I would give this product 3 out of 5 stars. While it gets the job done, I would recommend exploring other options that offer more comprehensive instructions and support.Rating: 3/5 starsRecommendation: Consider alternative soil pH test kits that provide clear instructions and guidance for optimal use.

This is a very useful tool to doing soil testing. It is easy to use, and it provides preliminary information that can help in solving clues and problems. Once you have this information it is helpful to see what further testing may be needed. Large amount for those who do a lot of field testing.
