This product is amazing, my house is on the cooler side and my sour dough starters and bread wouldn’t rise. So I have ordered this mat and everything I do has been a game changer

I think it'll do the job, it should fit a large variety of sizes and shapes, as there is much more material than I had expected as in the pad itself is quite long. It's all put together well seems to a quality item for its price point. It definitely works and it comes with the thermal strip with an adhesive back so you can stick it on like a sticker to get a temperature reading unfortunately I have not had a chance to make any bread with it but I did try it out at least and from everything I can tell it holds a steady temperature so I'm confident is going to help me be much more successful than usual at achieving and maintaining proper temp as before I was kind of just doing the best I could but I don't know how many batches of dough I've ruined because the slightest thing happens one of the kids or a dog opens the door gets left open the next thing you know your temperature is off.. a whole big mess. But I really feel that this is going to improve my average and at the very least protect it from sudden changes in temperature say a cold draft from an Open door, also it does not come with the cup it was a little unclear to me initially and I didn't need the cup/wanted it for the container but, I wasn't for sure if it included one or not, it does not but it fits just fine around jars and it has Velcro to hold itself to the container of your choice.

I have tried the proofing mat, and that did not work well, as it would harden/cook the starter on the bottom of the jar. I saw this, and figured - why not. I tried it first on low, and nothing. Upped it to medium, the starter had no reaction. Upped it to high, and finally the starter picked up speed and started to rise. It took longer for the starter to rise with this, than if I just placed it in the oven with the light on. I finally took the starter to mix the sourdough and I noticed that the heat caused the starter to cake on/harden around the sides. Does it work? Sort of. Is it worth the purchase? Not really.

We've been working with sourdough for years and there are all sorts of ways to proof your dough, but sometimes it'd be nice to just get things going and speed it up, just a little. This sourdough starter warmer jar is perfect for this, especially during seasons when it's cooler inside of the house and things are going a bit...slow. Simply wrap your starter jar with the heating sleeve and set the thermostat at the temperature that you think will work best for your situation. It might take some experimenting to get it right as starters and doughs will vary quite a bit. I didn't run into any of the drying issues mentioned by other reviewers - we used a dough jar which is a little thicker than a regular Ball jar so perhaps that made a difference. The dough rose normally and didn't give us any trouble, even though the kitchen temps were in the high 60's. The bread came out just as expected and was great! This starter warmer jar heating wrap worked as expected and can be easily folded up for storage when not in use. We like it and plan on using it again and can recommend it.

My wife is an avid sourdough bread baker and has had issues with her starter in the winter months since we keep our house at about 70 F. I thought the Sourdough Starter Warmer Jar Heating Wrap would greatly help her, but that was not the case. For starters (no pun intended), it is virtually impossible to monitor the temperature of the wrap since the included peel-and-stick temperature strip is put on the sourdough jar and then completely covered by the heating wrap. If you want to check the temperature, you have to unwrap the jar, which causes the temperature strip to change its reading immediately. Other complaints include the wrap, controller, and power cord being overly large and clumsy and instructions that are printed on the outside of the box only (with misprints and typos). There is a card packed with the Sourdough Starter Warmer Jar Heating Wrap that states, "From one home brewer to another." and then goes on to talk about kombucha and how the heating wrap is custom-made for brewing kombucha. This product might work for kombucha, but it doesn't work for sourdough starter.

As a beginner sourdough bread baker, I wanted the best possible chance to make the sourdough starter. This Heater Wrap seemed like the perfect thing I needed to maintain a constant temperature of around 75 degrees. It has three selectable levels of heat as explained in the instructions on the box: Low for slow fermentation, Medium for a balance between yeast activity and bacteria, and High to speed up fermentation. Currently, I have it on low, and it has maintained around 75 – 76 degrees the entire time, as measured on my IR temperature probe. I can verify that this definitely helps fermentation, as the starter dough nearly doubled in size within hours of the last feeding. This would definitely help, especially in Winter if your house temperature fluctuates. The length of the heat tape is sufficiently long such that this will accommodate many sizes of glass jars (such as Mason jars). It also comes with a temperature strip (similar to what some people would use on aquariums). My only complaint is that the instructions and descriptions were only on the box…..there was no little booklet (which would be much handier to keep).
