This was larger than I expected and quite impressive. I was worried about breakage, but it came in a large box with paper around a sealed plastic bag. Inside the sealed bag was another box wrapped twice around in bubble wrap. Inside that box was the thermometer encased in styrofoam. I compared it to my digital thermometer and it seems pretty accurate if I keep it away from windows and hot/cold sources. There is a 4 degree range, but for a quick idea of the temperature it will work fine.My father came to visit and was so impressed, I gave him one for his birthday, and another one to another friend who appreciates science. Both were very pleased. I actually also bought a smaller 14" one in cherry (which is also cool, though the base is less stable than this one) and gave her the choice since she has excellent taste and might prefer the cherry. She liked this one better. It has a bigger range (60-100 degrees) and is very pretty. I am keeping the cherry for my downstairs and this one for upstairs where it gets warmer. I might pick up a couple more as presents in the future since the current shipping process seems very good and none of my 3 broke.

I bought this for my mom for her birthday as a gift! We used to have one when I was a kid and it broke. I have been looking for one and finally ordered it! It was beautiful and my mom absolutely loved it. It works very good and it's a great decoration and gift idea!

I ordered this thermometer and when I received it I was surprised that it was labeled in Celsius, and that once in use in my room nothing every happened because apparently my room was too hot and the thermometer would not measure temperatures that high. So I came here and gave it bad review, which in hindsight may of been too harsh condersiding that the description says it is Celsius, but the manufacturer emailed me about replacing it with one that would be able to measure higher temperatures in my room, and a few weeks later at my door was this huge box with a new Galileo thermometer that could measure up to 100 degrees labeled in Fahrenheit! The company graciously sent it to me free of charge and I am ecstatic about the new thermometer; I love it.So in review, THIS thermometer is not bad, it is a great thermometer if you're measuring temperatures under 26C(78.8F). Just be aware that the picture is incorrect, it shows a thermometer in Fahrenheit, it is in Celsius. So if you need a thermometer that looks really pretty and cool and is a conversation starter, and you use Celsius on a regular basis you'll love this Galileo Thermometer :)
