So far I only tested it with two 12.6V 2.2Ah 35C rated lipos (each is rated @ 77A continuous discharge) and it seems to work really well with provided strips and scrap / dead batteries from old laptop. I decided to solder all the wires to hopefully reduce any resistance and made a very basic plastic backing plate. The XT60 connector now is probably the highest resistance point. On setting 6/8 it welds strips decently, but I still can somewhat pull them off. On setting 7/8 it welds strips well enough that if I try pulling them off they rip apart instead breaking the welds. For testing, I welded strips to 6 batteries, 2 strips to each, 3-4 pairs of welds each strip, and whole thing - ends you hold, board, and batteries got warm. The other welders sub $100 here that come with built-in batteries were much weaker than this welder. Tried two different brands and even on max setting strips were easy to pull off.If you have good power source like high current lipos or car battery then go for it. Now I can finally rebuild the pack for the robo vacuum cleaner, as buying quality battery for it is next to impossible.Like other reviewer here wrote, make sure the tips are clean and sharp.

The Welder requires 90 to 130 amps. You'll need a battery with a high discharge rate (denoted C). Take the mAh rating/1000*C to get the maximum current in amps the battery is capable of supplying. LiPo batteries for RC cars are a good choice (you will need to replace the copper lugs on the battery side of the welder with XT60 or XT90 connectors to make the attachment).Speaking of the lugs, they are rated to 20A which is odd but they seem to work. I've soldered all around the crimps to help them out.Anyway, it's working better than advertised for me. I suspect the people who aren't satisfied need to take a look at their battery.

I got this mini spot welder to try and make some good batteries out of several bad batteries. You need to spot weld the nickel strips to the ends of the batteries and I was hopeful this welder would do the job. I used the thinnest strips that came with the welder and it just wasn't hot enough to actually make the strips stay in place even after several tries. It however did do what it was suppose to do, it arced and made tiny little spot welds on the strips. All it would have taken for this unit to be great was just a little more power. It was close to spot welding the strips but just not quite. I gave up on using several batteries to make a few good ones because I'd get them almost done and the strips would come off. I sent this back to Amazon and they refunded my money quickly! Kudo's to Amazon!

I 3D printed a case and a grip for it. Probably my battery, but sometimes it barely welds and others is burns through the metal. I am using an old deep cycle battery while connected to the charger, but at least I do have eye protection on .

Tried numerous different ways to power it. Spent 150.00on a new battery to the manufacturer spec's and it still will not weld even the thin nickel strips that came with it ..

The welder works great after I practiced a little. The down side is the only instruction sheet with it is in Chinese and the input and output terminals are marked + and - so small that I had to take a picture and enlarge it to make sure I got them right. The copper electrodes are easy to short out ( taped them up) I wrapped the board in a clear plastic bag to protect it.

Have already spot welded multiple packs together with it and it works great.
