It took me over 3 weeks to muster the courage to swap the struts on our E46 BMW. The springs for that car are notoriously small and hard to compress because there aren't too many coils on them, so setting up the jaws far enough from each other in order to sufficiently compress the spring is a tricky affair. With the Amerbm compressor, I was able to collapse the coils into a pancake (the jaws were almost touching each other) without fearing for my life. The tool is heavy, sturdy, very well built, and priced competitively. Of course, the process is always a bit scary, but make sure to oil the compressor and to follow the instructions.I removed the plastic yellow protectors (whose role is to avoid scratching the spring) because I did not want the spring coil to slip over the lip. I felt that bare metal provides better resistance and prevents any slippage.Note: I had to use the stick compressor from AutoZone to remove the old struts because the Amerbm compressor could not lock on coils that were distant enough from each other to sufficiently compress the spring. That was mainly due to the wrong assembly performed by whoever last changed the struts and to the small size of the E46 coil springs.

Worked just perfectly for the rear end of my 06’ Volvo P2 V70R. I would say to go with the next larger sized seats then what the springs “look†like they should use. The smaller ones would cause the spring to sit off a bit when compressed, but moving to the next size up seat in the set remedied that.I found it was just perfectly sized to clear the top mount when positioned just right to get to it with the gun. I have 2 other styles of spring compressors and they wouldn’t line up well on one set and had to be done manually, or it wouldn’t compress enough on the other set. This set did the job with ease and enough compression of the spring. Its a pretty hefty piece of hardware, and feels pretty stout overall

I was a bit skeptical at first, but boy am I glad I bought this strut compressor! It made working on my f150 4x4 a breeze, you can't go wrong with this tool, we'll worth the money!

I felt very safe working with this spring compressor. 1000% recommend. It made very light work of changing springs on my Polaris. Thank you.

I used this spring compressor twice now and it made changing struts easier and faster. Felt sturdy to me so far. The issue is there is a smell. I ended up wiping the oil they use to coat the metal to prevent rusting, and let it sit outside open. Besides that, it works.

I've used this on a Cayman S and Acty truck... these are the best spring compressors and the sides they provide allow you to work on diverse vehicles.

Fits inside of the tightly wound front coils for my 4Runner, unlike many other spring compressors. Easy to use and doesn't seem like it's on the verge of exploding when compressing heavy springs.

Well built, but doesn't work for BMW Z4. Large jaws are much too big. Small jaw is useless. Medium jaw can't contract spring enough to remove shock. And if your not changing springs and try to attach to top plate, jaws are too narrow to accommodate top bearing mount. I had to take a angle grinder and open one of the medium jaw by at least 1/4" to make room for the top bearing mount.I would guess these result would be the same for 3 series BMW's

This kit made changing my Camry's struts much easier than what I have experienced with other tools in the past.

Great quality tool, compressed the Polaris Ranger springs with ease, held it safely and at no point did I fear for my life, paid for itself in an afternoon.

I purchased this spring compressor to replace the struts on my 2006 honda civic. The compressor worked great on the right side, where the spring coiled in the clockwise direction. However, when changing the left side, the tool was completely unusable because that spring coiled in the anticlockwise direction.
