I have a very cheap version of this tool. It was normal to 'help' the tool with a pry bar. The KTTool spreader changed that. It has a deep recess that goes much further in. It widens the opening equally all across, not crooked like a pry bar might. You can 'sneak' up on the amount that you need to open the spindle, so that the strut falls out and no further. If you are not applying equal force, you may end up cocking the opening which requires a wider space where you are prying. I don't know how much it takes to actually damage the strut, but I don't want to risk it.A nice bonus is the flat side which protrudes from the tool. We used it on a stubborn tie rod clamp to open it enough so it was easier to turn. We applied the tool outside of the threads it was attached to. Using it on the provision on the clamp for the bolts helped some, but putting this in the slot really did the trick. It widened the clamp without distorting it. This even worked on 1970 C10, which doesn't have struts!A word of caution. THIS IS NOT FOR REMOVING TIE ROD ENDS FROM THE SPINDLE as one person in the garage thought. I corrected that misconception immediately.

works on MB Audi and genesis so far. i prefer the socket style ones but this one has large and small side to cater to your needs.nerds i use this in a pro setting

Good tool. Useful for separating all kinds of stuff that can't be taken apart with a prybar or hammer.
