The 2014 National Electrical Code now requires both Combination Arc Fault and Ground Fault protection on all 1-Pole, 15 amp, and 20 amp kitchen and laundry circuits. Prior to the release of the Dual Function Circuit Breaker, a contractor or homeowner’s only choice was to use a Combination Arc Fault circuit breaker in conjunction with an expensive, bulky Ground Fault receptacle. The new Dual Function circuit breakers help reduce cost and eliminate the hassle of using two separate devices to provide essential protection. It’s a win for contractors and homeowners alike. Like all Square D CAFCI Circuit Breakers, it is integrated with Time Saver Diagnostics, a unique feature that provides additional circuit information and minimizes troubleshooting at the touch of a button.

Meets National Electrical Code requirements

The single-pole Dual Function circuit breaker is engineered to meet 2014 National Electrical Code requirements and designed to quickly identify and analyze when a hazardous condition exists. Combination Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (CAFCI) provide the highest level of arc fault protection on the market today, protecting against both serial and parallel arcs for the entire circuit.

How does TIME SAVER Diagnostics work?

Time Saver Diagnostics identify circuit issues faster. The Time Saver sequence is simple and easy to use, and requires no tools or special training. Simply turn off the circuit breaker, hold down the Push-To-Test button, and then turn the circuit breaker back on. It’s that simple! If the circuit breaker trips immediately, it is detecting a Fault to Ground. If the circuit breaker trips after a 2-second delay; it is detecting an Arc Fault. In either case, it is an indication that there is an issue ON the circuit and NOT with the circuit breaker itself. Time Saver Diagnostics is equipped in all Square D Homeline and QO(B) CAFI Circuit Breakers (1-Pole and 2-Pole) and Dual Function Circuit Breakers with a date code of 1130 or higher. For more information on QO and Homeline Dual Function Circuit Breakers, ask your authorized Schneider Electric distributor.

About 40 years ago I put in a 40 circuit 200 amp breaker box. As time went on I upgraded my breakers to the (then new) electrical code that required GFI breakers in areas that were close to water, were in a garage, or were on the exterior of the house. Eventually interest in using arc fault protection developed since their use reduces the likelihood of having an electrical fire. The GFI was great for reducing the risk of electrocution due to placing yourself into "hot wire to ground" circuit. However, the GFI had limited ability to stop arc faults. Now the combination GFI + Arc fault devices are becoming reasonably priced. The Square D - QO120DFC is an excellent choice for those who are safety oriented. (update: After 6 moths of use all of these breakers are working properly -- Several of them tripped when we had a two day power failure that put significant voltage surges and drops on our electrical service. They worked well when we turned on our back-up generator.)

Square D is well known amongst the electricians as the best breakers available. I requested this when I wired my building and bought this breaker to offer GFCI protection in my metal building workshop. I purchased several of these and they so far work great and no bogus trips as of yet and using for woodworking tool 20 amp 110 volt outlets. I liked this better than putting in gfci outlets daisy chained together. Easy to install and tested these and work great. Will buy more as needed.

Having installed over 1000 Load Centers in my working for a living years , I found Square D products are the most dependable . I suggest them to my customers when they ask for my opinion . The QO line costs more , but you get what you pay for !

Since it’s hard to tell these days, thought others would appreciate knowing at least these 20 A dual function QO breakers I got appear to be the real thing in the same sealed factory packaging as I have purchased retail from the usual big box stores ( but a much better price! Thank you. )

Still plugged in, does not cry or tear me a river.. Each test (monthly or bi-monthly) responds normally. Love it if it does what I expect in future.

Amazing price compared to local dealers, and with Prime I can't believe how fast they arrived. Ordered at 21:00, arrived the next day before 17:00. Square D QO (thought not bolt in breakers) are great and with arc/ground fault protection, I love these breakers.
