There is a slight chance it would work on wood larger than a 2" diameter stick, but only if you had the following:1. A 34 inche, 16 lb. sledgehammer.2. A friend who is crazy enough to hold the wood steady on top of the "splitter" while you swing the sledgehammer dangerously close to his/her head. Perhaps if you supplied a helmet, they would be more willing.If you don't have both of the above, I would recommend not burning your money on this item; the scrap yard won't give you much for it.

This was definitely much smaller than anticipated I can hold it in the palm of my hand when trying to use it to split wood it's pretty much useless cute little toy though sadly
