About this item

  • DREAM FOR DRUMMERS: it takes no time to set up, and you get the same kick and snare sounds as a drum set at a fraction of the volume; play with your hands toward the center to get the deepest tone and near the top corners for crisp snare effects
  • WHY IT MATTERS: a lot of musical settings don't allow for the space or volume level of full drums; with the Meinl Headliner Cajon, you can engage fully during acoustic shows with your band, jam sessions, or with your praise band without taking over
  • BE SMART: the playing surface is 100% American white ash wood, and it delivers clear sound full of warm mids, crisp highs and deep low-end tone; made with NO cheap, glued-on, plasticky laminates that only look like wood
  • HOW IT WORKS: the ash wood playing surface delivers punchy bass with about as much volume as an acoustic guitar, and inside the cajon are two sets of adjustable micro-coiled steel cajon strings that give you a crisp snare sound (tuning key included)
  • HOW TO ADJUST STRINGS: we include a hex key that you can use to tighten or loosen the two screws on the bottom of the cajon (between the two front feet); tighten the screws for more definition and loosen them for a lax snare effect
  • BY THE NUMBERS: the Meinl Headliner Cajon measures 11 3/4" W x 18" H x 12 1/4" D and weighs 10 lbs; its full size has enough volume for any room, and it's made to last with a solid frame that supports adults and children
  • THE BOTTOM LINE: you can play alongside guitars at acoustic shows, with worship music, in the studio, or at outdoor jams; four solid silicone feet keep the cajon stable, avoid scratches, and eliminate crazy vibrations on any surface
  • THE BIG PICTURE: Meinl is a family-owned musical instrument manufacturer and brand established 1951 in Germany; our expert German designers have deep relationships with our builders to ensure you're delivered the absolute finest quality

MEINL Headliner Series Cajons deliver the classic cajon sound at an affordable price and can be played with Flamenco or World Music. They are also very useful during unplugged gigs for delivering the rhythmic foundation for a whole band when a full drum set cannot be used. These Rubber Wood cajons feature an internal system of strings that span from the top to the bottom of the playing surface to deliver a sensitive rattle that acts as a snare effect. The strings are fully adjustable for different tastes. Simply tighten or loosen the two screws at the bottom of the cajon with the allen wrench provided to find your characteristic voice. A deep and boomy American White Ash frontplate provides the basis for rich sound development. This durable playing surface delivers a full bass spectrum, cutting snare slaps, and responds beautifully to soft finger rolls, giving you precise dynamic control. The top corners of the frontplate are adjustable by tightening or loosening the screws - another feature from Meinl that allows you to completely customize your style. This will alter the distance between the frontplate corner and cajon body, resulting in a varied amount of "slap" sound. The resonating body has solid construction and excellent tonal qualities that broaden your bass notes and focus your rolls and corner hits to take your beats to the next level, leaving you feeling inspired to play more. Meinl Headliner Series Cajons are ideal for any skill level and musician. From praise and worship services and theatrical productions to rock ‘n roll shows and small coffee house sets, their versatility is unmatched. If you are a guitar player and wish to add a little pulse to your music, gently striking the frontplate with the back of your heel generates a superb low end punch. Their wide range of sounds, ease of use and musicality make these cajons more than capable to integrate into your main act, live or in the studio.

I play in two settings where a cajon is already on stage and wanted to be able to practice the specific instrument without spending too much, so I went for this one. For the money, it's great. Fit and finish are excellent. It's sturdy enough that I'm not worried about my kids hurting it. Design/color looks great. Sound is decent. Bass not as warm and touches and slaps not as distinct as nicer ones I've played, even after "tuning," but it's great for playing at home or gigs where the focus is on other instruments/voices which is pretty much all the time for percussionists. Not sure I'd record anything but a demo with it, but for almost anything else, why spend more?

Great instrument for the price! Well made and great sound. Fun for adults and kids to play and not too heavy! I surprised my husband( a music major and former worship leader/ conductor)with this for his birthday and he loves it! We Recommend this product!

We have been very pleased and impressed with our Cajon. I do not have musical talent but I purchased the Cajon for use in a small church that I pastor. We have a young man (13) who plays piano, sings with our praise group, and has been teaching himself how to play drums. He very quickly picked up on how to play the Cajon because of its simplicity and ease of use. The Cajon produces more than enough volume for our auditorium (seats about 150) and the sounds / tones it produces are amazing for such a compact unit. We say 'thumbs up' on value!

Disclosure: I was offered a free shaker for writing this review, but that in no way impacts my opinion of the Headliner Cajon. This is the first cajon that I've owned. I primarily play drum set for an alternative rock/pop rock group. Occasionally, we play acoustic sets which prompted my search for a cajon with a solid snare attack and a good kick drum sound. The Meinl Headliner fills that role nicely at a reasonable price. It has a great low end bass, which works well with a syncopated rock kick/snare groove. I also found that loosening the corner screws slightly provided a great slap. My only complaint would be that the strings inside do rattle a bit too long, but there are straps holding the strings to the front plate. A little tape helps hold the strings and eliminates the extra rattle. I also found adding a kick mic in the back and a condenser mic in front highlights all the tones the cajon has to offer. All in all, a great cajon! Perfect for rockin out when the set doesn't call for a full kit.

I had never had a cajon before, and needed some sort of portable drum set. The cajon is everything I could ask for and more. The different sounds it can make are truly amazing, and the amount of sound such a small instrument can create never ceases to amaze me. It's great for traveling, as it's really light weight and portable. It's really nice for a great acoustic sound, especially great for backing folk style music. I've tried using brushes on it too and it sounds great like that.Beyond that, I tried a couple cajons at Guitar Center before deciding on this specific one. Others lack the same kind of resonance that this cajon delivers, and they're incapable of being heard over even a small amount of guitar/bass. This cajon holds it's own very well and is overall the best cajon out of the several that I tried.Meinl never ceases to amaze, and with this cajon it looks as though they may have outdone themselves.

I purchased this Cajon for my grandkids that are all very musical. It has been quite the hit. Ah ha.... get it??/ Anyway.... I also have enjoyed playing it. It has a snare sound in the bottom and to me it sounds to cheap. I like it but think if I bought it again... I would pay a bit more money and get a little better quality. The box looks nice and is sturdy. The rattle from the snare is just not sounding like snare to me.

I researched a lot of different styles, brands, and price ranges. I settled on this model because I usually lean towards mid price range on my first purchase. I was not disappointed! This is my first cajon and I immediately fell in love. The appearance was exactly what I wanted. The depth of bass and different sounds you can extract from this simple instrument will blow your mind. I will be purchasing Meinl products in the future. If you have been as intrigued by a cajon drum as I have, buy a Meinl, you won't regret it. :-)

Nice tone and construction. The top, bottom, and sides have a speckle finish that is fabulous for brushes. I sit on a drum seat, put the cajon on the floor on top of a Meinl seat pad and lean it back to play. There's was bit of a buzz that went away after I tightened the strings and I put a small pillow inside... I'm using it with a Roland EC-10M module. I'm very happy with this cajon.

This is a great sounding piece of kit and will allow our band to do a small gig without the need for our drummer who cant make it. I am not a 'drummer' as such but as long as you can keep a good beat along with the rhythm, i believe you could use this. The basics are simple but the first thing you need to do is reach inside for the small allen key.Its attached to the inside and you need to loosen the bottom of the cajon as there is a piece holding the wires inside tight, for transporting it. You loosen it by about half a turn or more depending on the sound you need. The easiest way to explain 'as a beginner' myself, is that there are 3 main areas you hit with the flat of your hand. This gives a base sound and two snare drum sounds. Technically that's not true as there are many sounds you can achieve but I am a beginner myself.I suggest youtube to learn some patterns but I have had it for a week now and fell comfortable now with my progress. The cajon is well made and looks good. The sound is superb. It has a good bass drum sound and the snare sound is excellent. Our drummer tried it and he said he thought it was a good piece of kit.Our intention is to mic the unit up and play through sound desk but its also loud enough to play at home or for an intimate gig with friends.I read a few reviews which stated the Cajon was damaged on arrival. Mine came well packaged in a really sturdy box. For the money, I would certainly recommend it. Good for beginners or professional players. Please note that I am not a drummer. I play table top drums much to the annoyance of my better half, therefore some of the terminology I use in my review, may not be accurate as such.
