I use this tool for installing stairs in the Habitat for Humanity houses that I build. It is very well- made, relatively easy to use, and holds its settings well. It is far superior in the latter respect to the wooden Starrett jig which is similar but made of wood.The only downsides to this tool:1. there are numerous screws to tighten to lock in your settings. I guess this is the price of the superior holding power, but it would be nice if you could lock them in with small cam-type locks rather than screws.2. There are many pieces to the tool, not all of which are used together. It would be really nice to have some sort of case supplied, to keep everything together.Overall, room for improvement it is buy it again.

Building new stairs is not something I see in my future, but this set is good for lots of other things. In particular, I occasionally make geometric wood sculptures that have a number of odd angles and lengths. This tool is perfect for either replicating duplicate or mirror pieces, or finding the right angles for a new bridge piece. It can also be used to mark both sides of a complex angle cut, significantly reducing trial an error. Happy!

Works great, use as a template to make stair treads easy.Fairly heavy duty but lightweight design is easy to handle.Could also be useful with other projects like shelvingAssembly and disassembly is very easy and pretty much self explanatory.Excellent quality, I would order again and it would also make a nice gift!

As arrived, tool comes come in a brown, non-descriptive boxOut of the box, the bars are very well built – lightweight aluminum with a great paint job!Adjustment is easy with the knobs- which are plastic with an embedded screwInstructions are fairly basic so if you need a brief lesson in use, best to research videos; but operation once you get the hang of it is fairly straight forward and quite easy to adjust and hold.Only issue I have is I wish the knobs could tighten a bit more – likely a washer will help but not as easy to add to the mix when youre trying to move quick. The issues with the knobs are a light bump can mess up your measurement between the stairs and the sawOverall, theyre lightweight, rigid, professional, and durable and I am very happy with the quality and performance I’ve seen thus far!

A must have tool for staircase planks. Though little challenging to assemble and operate in the beginning but once you know the trick, you can’t live without this tool.

I was really happy with this stair tread. The tool overall was nice and heavy duty material, defiantly something that can be taken to the job site with out any worries of damage.For operation I was impressed with how smooth all the slides worked. I didn't find myself fighting with them sticking or getting hung up on a certain angle when attempting to get my measurement and placement. Everything moved smoothly and once I was ready locked right into place with the knobs.The knobs locked in with a very minor twist, I was worried at first as these typically have a tendency to knock stick and overturn ruining the locking mechanics. This did not have that issue, and I found I could get away with being able to operate the template smoothly with only a quarter turn unlocked and a quarter turn to lock it back into place.Something that really stuck out to me is this is not a one size fits all tool. It can do a majority of stairs but you need to swap out the main cross bar in order to go from smaller to larger stairs. This was a solid benefit to myself, as my old one was a one size fit all. Which was great for larger stairs but the moment I went to a smaller set I felt rather silly trying to juggle this big tool and break it down to fit to the small stair case. With the changeable bar which only took about 2 minutes to swap out, this one eliminated that issue completely.Overall easy recommendation, great quality and a very well thought out design.
