This fit my 1988 Chevy K1500 with no problem. It took longer figuring out how to take the electrical connector off the axle than it did installing the actuator. It may be a dumb design but it lasts about 10years each time I've replaced it. This is not the third actuator I've replaced on my truck since I bought it new, It has 404,000 miles on it so I'd consider that a very acceptable service interval.

If you own an older Chevy 4x4 truck and you use the 4 wheel drive frequently you will probably be replacing one of these thermal 4 wheel drive actuators (aka. Donkey Dong) every 5-7 years. Pictured is my previous unit which had lost it's internal gas and was kind of stuck in the cylinder. It's an easy replace. Just put the truck on a lift or drive it up on some good oil change ramps and crawl under behind the right front tire. Unhook the connector behind and above the axle. The unit itself is in front of the axle. With the cord disconnected, you can use a crescent wrench to loosen the old one and unscrew it by hand. Screw in the new one, tighten it, route the new cord through the clips and re-connect it and you are done. I changed the oil while I had it up. The thing about these donkey dong style actuators is that you have to plan about 30 seconds ahead to put it in 4 wheel or take it out as they operate by heating gas within the rubber bulb. In cold weather it takes a bit longer to engage. Must have been another committee designed GM product.

This was a direct replacement for a 94' Chevy K2500 Silverado. The part fit and fixed my 4X4. We will see how long it lasts.
