Our fretwire is sized to fit a 0.023" (0.58mm) fret slot width.
Fretwire is made in a variety of crown heights. Note that after the frets are installed and leveled, they can lose from .004" to .010" in height. High fretwire has a crown height of .045" or more. It may offer more note sustain due to its slightly greater mass, and more fret dressings are possible between refrettings. Low fretwire is often useful for partial refret jobs.

I recently bought a tele-style partscaster kit and used StewMac's ColorTone lacquer for the finish. It turned out great. The lacquer sprayed evenly and easily. I later built a cigar-box style 3-string guitar and got the fretboard and fret wire from StewMac. I was worried that the frets weren't going to set in the slots I cut by hand, but after watching a video where someone was installing them I saw that you really have to hit them harder than I was to get them to set in securely. After a few more tests, pounding a little harder, I was in business, and completed the guitar and it turned out great. StewMac products have been excellent and their service is great as well.

I like the size of the medium fretwire and the convenience of buying 2 foot sticks. I design and build unique guitars almost "requiring" small or medium fretwire and the StewMac frets work great for me!
