The Nomad Meditation Bench is a simple, beautiful bench with a ground-breaking design. The Nomad combines comfort, portability, and flexibility in a way we haven’t seen in a meditation bench. You may choose one of two colors: natural or black. And one of two sizes: Medium (Nomad 1) or Large (Nomad 2). The Nomad is a kneeling bench, designed to be used only in the kneeling or seiza sitting position. It is handsomely crafted in the USA, right outside Seattle and designed by Norwegian architect, Åsmund Skard. Nomad 1 (medium) & Nomad 2 (large): We offer two sizes of Nomad – Nomad 1 and Nomad 2. The Nomad 1 is smaller and a little more portable. The Nomad 2 is larger and allows you to sit higher if you’d like. The Nomad 1 sitting height adjusts from approx. 5” – 9.5”. The Nomad 2 adjusts from approx. 6” – 11”. You’ll probably want a Nomad 1 (medium) if: You prefer a slightly lighter and smaller bench to travel with. You are small to medium height and build. You are any height and your knees are fairly flexible. You’ll probably want a Nomad 2 if: You are medium to large height and build. You are any height and have knees that are not-so-flexible. Nomad 1: Folded size is 17” x 6.25” x 1.5”. When open highest setting is 9.5”, lowest is 5”. Weight is 1 lb. 9 oz. Nomad 2: Folded size is 19” x 7” x 1.5”. When open highest setting is 11” high, lowest is 6”. Weight is 2lbs. 1 oz. Comfortable: It’s hammock-style seat conforms to your body and allows you to sit comfortably for hours at a time. Portable: This meditation bench is perfect for taking on the road. It folds nearly flat, is very light weight, and packs easily in a backpack or suitcase. Flexible: Unlike most benches, the Nomad allows you to change the height. By simply adjusting the Velcro on your fabric seat you may raise and lower the height for your perfect fit.

I love this meditation bench. I have been meditation for over 40 years and have always used a cushion, but as I have gotten older it is more difficult to sit in even half lotus. I had tried other benches of friends but found them uncomfortable and many would cut off circulation. This one is very comfortable, easy to adjust to the right height for your comfort, so easy to travel with, and just the best bench ever. Looks great too. Many thanks to whoever invented it.

Wow. I've sat on many things on sesshin the last few years. Gomdens, tall zafu, short zafu, buckwheat and cotton, butterfly cushions, a folding chair, seiza of various height. I've usually been in significant pain and rarely feel like I'm in an ergonomic pose that isn't battering my body. This is definitely the best so far.The mesh seat pushes my back into traditionally militaristic posture without straining or striving. I feel quite stable as long as I don't move, which isn't supposed to be happening anyway. My knees don't hurt, and my legs don't get sleepy.I bet this will be really good on sesshin. I'm planning on doing a retreat in the Antaijji style. Just sitting and walking literally all day; no rest periods, interview, work practice, dharma talk, .etc.I do feel a little weird about buying such an expensive, pretentious seat. I've in the past mentally mocked fellow sitters for having seats that look like they belong in an art museum. But thinking about the cost per hour sitting in it, this will probably work out pretty cheap. Pennies an hour?

I've had surgery on both knees, so I need an adjustable bench that can let me take some pressure off the knees. I like sitting seiza, but my old seiza benches were too low and put too much bending pressure on the knees. I've used it several times now and adjusted the height a bit to find my perfect fit and I love it. The fabric is definitely more comfortable than the solid benches I have, even when padded. I also love the easy portability - I put it in my duffle bag and took it on a recent trip so I could meditate comfortably.I love the design; my only complaint is the build quality. Mine came with very rough woodwork - it would definitely have picked synthetic leggings or tights. I realize it is plywood, but that's no excuse. I took the fabric and elastic off mine, sanded it down and applied another coat of polyurethane, then repeated that process to get smooth edges and finish all around; now it's perfect. That's the only reason I took off a star, otherwise would be five.

I'm really glad I bought this meditation bench. It's very comfortable and worth every penny. Both posture and circulation has been an issue for me since I started meditating a year ago. I prefer to kneel for meditation as it's easier for me to maintain an upright posture. I can kneel for much longer without my legs going to sleep with this bench. I've tried a meditation pillow before with a kneeling pose and my legs still went to sleep after about 10 to 15 minutes. I really like that it's light weight and portable so I can take it with me when I travel. I also like that it's made locally. I would recommend this to anyone, especially if they are not able to sit in a lotus or half lotus pose or if kneeling for a long time is uncomfortable. I'm in my late 40's and 5' 10" tall.

I purchased this for travel, but when it arrived and I tried it out, I found that the base interfered with my lower legs when I tried to kneel on it. Sent it back immediately. It's a cool idea, and the design is beautiful, but sadly, was not compatible with my body and meditation posture.

Interesting design and I am glad it works for many who have written reviews. I found the velcro to be hard to adjust. It is so strong. I was not able to find a comfortable position. When too low, I was crunched up; when too high, the circulation in my legs was hampered.

Having knee issues, and wanting to meditate in a kneeling position, I decided to try the Nomad medititation bench. I bought the larger version for the extra height. The velcro areas are generous and can make it a bit difficult to adjust but it does allow you to fine tune the bench to the height that you need.I don't plan on traveling with the bench but I did not find the larger bench all that heavy.I've meditated using a zafu and zabuton and another brand of wooden kneeling bench. This bench is currently my favorite.
