I have only been using this about 10 days, but so far, I'm happy with the results.

Directions say to throw a tab in a clean tank, so we emptied and pressure washed both 100 gallon tanks that we use for our horses. One tank is metal, one is Rubbermaid. We threw one tab in each tank. We live in the south, so our tanks were already getting algae and nastiness and the warmer it gets, the more often we have to dump them so if these tabs work we will be saving water and time. In the past we have tried listerine, goldfish, tiny bundles of straw (from TSC) and a tiny amount of bleach - none of which worked very well (the poor fish died). So I will update this review after a couple of weeks and award the fifth star if they were effective.

I have a small (50 gallon) stock tank with a auto-fill float valve. So far, these tablets are really helping to break down the chewed grass and crud that my horses deposit in the tank when they drink. They are just really messy that way. I skim out all the vegetation large enough to be caught in a net, but there are still plenty of tiny particles for the algae to eat. Without the tablets, the tank is lined with green sludge in no time. With them, the hay and feed fragments seem to break down into something that looks like sawdust and settle on the bottom leaving the water perfectly clear. I drain the tank fairly often, but the horses immediately "re-flavor" it with their chewed up food! A black tank in full sun heats up into a algae soup in no time. Right now, it is still quite cold and the algae have not kicked into high gear. Days are in the 70s and nights in the 30s or 40s. I am hoping the tablets continue to work in the heat of the summer. I would assume that the microbes in the tablets will love the hot temperatures as much as the algae do. I wish I could use barley straw in the tank since it is much less expensive and lasts longer. But, the horse would just pull it out of the tank and try to eat it. I have high hopes for clearer water this summer.

I dropped 2 or 3 tablets in each of three different stock troughs 2 weeks ago to see how they work. It happens to be winter and on the cool side even in Florida so probably not the best time to really test this product. I’m not really sure of the total capacity of my troughs, but two a pretty large - maybe 200 gallons of water, and one is less than half that size. I gave the most problem with algae in my small trough and I dropped 2 tablets into it. After two weeks the amount of algae was definitely decreased. In particular the algae that was growing closer to the top of the water was virtually eliminated. The algae build up on the bottom was still pretty heavy, but that probably just needs to be scooped out. In the two larger troughs I use 3 tablets. Maybe should have done 4 or 5, but even with just three tablets the algae growth was reduced. In my most heavily used trough the algae was almost completely eliminated and the water was very clear. In the other less used trough, like with the small trough the algae growth seemed to be reduced near the surface and particularly in the center where the horses tend the drink. The water was clear, but the trough still needs some cleaning.I will be anxious to see how this stock tank clarifier works when the weather turns warm again and the algae is growing more fervently. I think this product will work quite well as a prophylactic to prevent new algae growth so long as the troughs start relatively clear and clean.

I've been using this regularly in clean buckets for the goats and I haven't really noticed any difference in the buckets. They need cleaned just as often, seem to still grow algae at the same rate, and get that "slimy" edge feeling at the same pace as usual. This just seems to be fairly useless honestly.
