This is my favorite lump charcoal. It doesnรขโฌโขt spark or stink. It has a light kinda sweet aromaรขโฌยฆgreat for high heat grilling. It may cost a little more but itรขโฌโขs well worth it. I wonรขโฌโขt use any other lump charcoal.

This is REAL sugar maple lump charcoal and is wonderful with anything you grill. This is NOT lumber scrap many lump charcoal brands sell. The pieces vary in size and there are a lot of small chunks vs big chunks, but that is because it comes from real limb pieces and not leftover cut scrap lumber.I only wish I could buy this local but this is second best to get this charcoal in my grill.

Recommended from a thread of Kamado Joe cooks and it doesn't disappoint. I got a mix of chunks with a majority toward medium. Smells amazing through the entire cook. As far as burning hotter, the KJ is an amazing cooker, so I didn't notice any difference. That said, I love cooking with this.

Great stuff, and adds a great smoke flavor. Be careful, though, as it burns really hot, much, much hotter than briquets. You could probably smelt iron with it if you use too much.

I've used this lump charcoal exclusively this year for a number of reasons, one being the large chunks, very few small pieces, but this time was a disappointment. The bulk of this bag contained very few large chunks, mostly smaller pieces, some that blocked off the holes in the ceramic basin of my BGE which caused airflow issues. The pros: this has no black smoke, burns hot, lights quicker than any others I've used(I've been smoking for 20+ years!) maintains consistent temps, with almost no smoke, allowing your smoking wood to be the only thing that imparts flavor into whatever you're smoking. I experimented with roasting Char Siu on the smoker instead of the oven and it added nice color and bit of sweetness to the meat, but no other smoke flavor which was the goal. Would I purchase this again? Yes, because I love the barley discernible smoke which allows me to use my alder or applewood- I am not a fan of hickory or oak as I mainly smoke fish. Just beware you may not get a bag with a lot of large chunks.

This charcoal is mild in smoke and across multiple bags has almost always burned the same. The wood is not as dense as oak or hickory, and it does burn hotter and faster in my experience, but you know what you are dealing with and once you get a handle on its characteristics it is excellent to use for most applications. You have to add more over time than a slower burning wood but the results have been worth it for me. No heavy smell to the smoke and it allows for use of other wood chunks to add more flavor or smoke as desired. The manufacturer has also probably been made aware of bags shipping with smaller broken pieces and the last few have had a higher percentage of medium pieces. There will always be some small pieces with a wood that is prone to breakage like maple, but not much more than the harder stuff in my recent experience. I also like that you know what is in the bag as opposed to brands that just have "hardwood" or "smoking blend" or some other euphemism that avoids telling you what you are using. It's a bit pricey because of the shipping but it's been worth it for me.
