Purchased this pump to manage standing water in backyard during Southern California Winter 2024. This unit worked great in auto-shutoff mode and I was able to leave it plugged in for over a week to remove accumulated water.I used this inside a 12" catch basin connected to a 75-foot 2 1/4" corrugated pipe from Harbor Freight to push rainwater to the street. The only concern with this unit is it has a taller intake so you won't be able to suck up all the water...you will leave about 1/2" before too much air cuts off the suction.PROS- Super powerful 1hp motor that easily moved water from 13" catch basin through 75' (yes, feet) of collapsible tubing on mostly flat ground.- Auto-shutoff mode worked very well when leaving unit plugged in for over a week during California Winter 2024 storms.- Has adjustable internal float switch where you can increase the depth of water when using auto-shutoff mode.- Comes with lots of fitting attachments to meet different applications.CONS- Has minimum clearance of about 1/2" and will leave about 1/2" of water regardless of auto or manual mode. I had hoped for only about 1/4", but this is not a big deal.- So powerful, the unit jerks a little when turning on in auto mode. For my application, I could have gone with smaller horsepower, but the auto-shutoff mode worked great.

We've needed multiple pumps in the yard to divert water during heavy storms. With things getting especially wet these days in California, we decided to add a bigger pump into the mix and picked this one. Not only is it a great value, it performs like a champ. The orange plastic is a nice touch when out at night in a downpour checking on the pumps -- it's easy to see. Though experience we learned that using a 1 1/2" hose makes a huge difference in throughput, combined with the hefty 1hp motor. So I outfitted this pump with the 1 1/2" blue heavy duty discharge-type. We put the pump in a small drain that gets overwhelmed, so there is plenty of collected water there to trigger the pump's float switch. The flat blue hoses only have one drawback, they kink easily and must lay flat. So I bought a 90-degree fitting to allow the hose to lay at a 90-degrree angle to the pump (I couldn't find a PVC version so chose galvanized steel, which works great). During our last storm this rig was such a star performer, that I bought another to replace one of our other OK pumps (which is now serving as a backup). While the first order took 10 days, the second pump came overnight, just in time for our next big storm. Thank you Amazon!

Worked to drain a huge pond that forms in my yard whenever it rains. It would drain an area about 15x15, maybe 6-8 inches deep, in about 2 hours. At one point, it did get clogged and I took it apart to free the float, but given it pumped out a LOT of dirt and leaves, I was pretty happy with it. I had to put it on a flat pan in the deepest part of the yard, because it didn't have enough clearance not to immediately clog on the bare ground, but the pan method worked well. You can set it to run constantly (and burn up when it's dry) or turn off when the float gets low. It was a little hard to figure out which way was which, as it's a raised bump on the plastic which was hard to read. The hose comes out straight up, which is fine for a well or deep pond, but i had to muddle together an elbow to connect my hose, otherwise it just folded over and cut off flow. It would be great if it came with an elbow piece along with the other two attachments. It's a little hard to get it going, as dropping it straight in will keep air inside, and it won't start. But with a bit of practice, I figured out how to angle it so all the air came out as it entered the water.Hope it works as well for next year.
