Many may perhaps not realize, but this is a more than highly useful tool! The US military used to issue similar to those stationed in cold weather environments (Northern Europe/ Asia, and Arctic...). It can assist in many ways with both ambient temperature approximation as well as with additional wind chill with the wind chill chart on the back! Thus one can ascertain, roughly, weather hazards that may impact activities and or level of dress in areas where a simple training exercise or outdoor cross-country ski- hunting-snowshoe- snowmobile-outing can in fact potentially turn into a survival situation very rapidly! The magnifying glass, in addition to being utilized to read a map or fine print, could potentially also be used to start a fire with sunlight if needed. The compass, although not precision, is good enough for cardinal directions, which can be more than useful in a "whiteout" situation or dense fog-limited visibility and as a backup should one loose their primary compass or means of land navigation, as well as other essential equipment! This is perfect addition to the M-65 Field Jacket and liner as well as M-65 Filed Pants and line (at amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/Rothco-M-65-Field-Jacket-Olive/dp/B00026LI58/ref=sr_1_2?crid=EX4BKULGN2LF&keywords=rothco%2Bm-65%2Bfield%2Bjacket&qid=1547875710&sprefix=rotcho%2Bm-65%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-2&th=1 AND https://www.amazon.com/Rothco-Vintage-M-65-Field-Pants/dp/B002PQVJUC/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=rothco+m-65+field+pants&qid=1547875772&sr=8-1 AND https://www.amazon.com/Military-Field-Liner-Weather-Trousers/dp/B00F3G8H74/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=m-65+field+pants+liner&qid=1547875826&sr=8-1 in order) that have good strong brass zipper systems that can be handled with gloves on (i.e. not flimsily cloth pull tab on small light-duty plastic zipper), or other such easily adaptable and rugged outerwear! This item can also be utilized as a small straight edge and would have bee great had a small distance measurement scale been added.Small but highly useful tool, one should have in extreme cold weather environments as both a quick weather-direction approximation tool and as a backup survival tool!

The thermometer is a little too small to get an accurate reading down to the degree, but you get an idea of the temperature to within 3 or 4 degrees. Small, lightweight, and pretty accurate when comparing to other devices. Attached it to my Osprey back pack. I forget its there until I need to know the temp. The compass is pretty accurate. Wouldn't want to navigate completely with it, but gives a good general idea of the direction you are headed.

I have one of these on every laptop bag. I never leave home without one. Imagine you are visiting a new city. You arrive at the airport, take the train into the city, get off at the station your business contact said to use. He also said, walk two blocks north and you'll find his office. But it's overcast and you don't know which way is north. But with this on your bag, you do.You can also use the built-in magnifier to find that splinter in your finger and take it out with your tweezers. (You do have a Swiss army knife, right?)And when you arrive at your hotel and the room is freezing or boiling, you can tell the front desk that it's frigging so many degrees in here.

Too small to see well. (My fault that I didn’t pay attention that it’s the size of my thumb and unreturnable.) Ironically, if I had two of them I could use the magnifying glass on one to read things on the other. Also, the compass sticks in an incorrect position.

this little guy has two jobs: hanging off of things, such as a key fob, and telling the temperature. it only does one of those things, and just barely manages to tell the correct temp.

I've only had this product two days.It is nicely made. It will be fun to read when I'm stuck, not moving, on a ski lift for twenty minutes. Glad I have it.

Thermometer has a big scratch on it which made it hard to read and the whole thing just seems very cheaply made. Would not last long attached to my pack on a backpacking trip which is why I bought it. Maybe would be ok for $5.00. but not $13.00. returning.
