I am a complete novice when it comes to ponds, pumps and filters and how to keep a pond clean. Last season I tried natural products (barley straw, plants to add oxygen, etc) and vacuuming out leaves the best I could. Then I found the wonderful sun grech bio filter on amazon WITH GREAT reviews and great questions and a reasonable price AND IT WORKS SO WELL! My pond was so dark I could only see the multi- colored 30 or so goldfish (from small size to pretty darn big) when they came to the top to feed. In TWO WEEKS, the pond is so much clearer, I can see deeply into the pond!! I cleaned the filter twice following directions and using the handle. Waste water was putrid green (showed how well it was working) but cleared quickly once I changed back to filter mode. I am ecstatic and the fish are happier too. I am sure I won't have to clean filter so often once pond is a little more stable (but so easy, I don't mind cleaning it!)

I don't usually do reviews...but this filter is amazing! I have been struggling with keeping my temporary indoor pond clear. The pictures are not even a full 3 days later and it's crystal clear and no longer stinks! Easy installation, easy to clean it, Love it!! Definitely worth every dollar!

I've waited about 3 months before posting a review so I could have an accurate assessment of this filter. I was especially concerned how it would stand up to extremely cold weather. We've had weather down in the low 20's several nights in a row and this filter has withstood the cold with flying colors. However, I must add that I have small decorative LED lights (9) in 3 ponds so that does help and keeps the water from freezing. As far as cleaning goes, this is a far superior system to what I had before. Previously, I had two in-pond barrel filters which would have to be removed on a monthly basis (or more) and cleaned- which was not only messy and unpleasant but, in the winter, could be a quiet painful experience. With this filter, all those problems have come to an end and I couldn't be happier. Additionally, the filter cleaned the water to a high clarity within 36 hours in ponds with a total estimated water volume of 1200 gallons and (in terms of water clarity and cleanliness) has vastly outperformed the two barrel filters it replaced. It has done so in ponds containing about 60 fish (similar to Koi) that grow to about 7" to 10" in length. All factors considered, this filter has outperformed my wildest expectations and I couldn't be happier. In fact, I'm rather ecstatic with the results! So much time, effort, and energy saved that it's amazing!

This filter worked well to begin with. Easy install, no leaks, cleaned a 300 gal. pond up in about 3 days. I love the external handle cleaning feature. Unfortunately, the uv lamp failed after about 2 months....or so I thought. I purchased replacement bulbs (got a 2 pack of 13 W UV-C with a G23 base right here on good old Amazon). Installed new bulb...no luck...tried the second new bulb since I had one...again, no luck. Verified there is power to the unit. Guess the ballast is bad. Trying to figure out who to contact to see if I can get a replacement uv portion or even a ballast to install myself. Will update if/when I get this resolved. Update: Lost the user manual...so...unable to contact the manufacturer. My suggestion...DO NOT buy this filter...you are better off purchasing a stand alone clarifier and filter. I certainly have to. This is overpriced for just a pressurized filter. I guess Grech needs a quality control department. Please read the other reviews about the uv light not working. I wish I had.

We have about a 600 gal pond that has had a constant algae problem for 20 years. We have tried many types of filters which generally clog really quickly and reduce the flow of the small pumps to a trickle in a day or two. They have had little impact on the algae. There are currently about 30 goldfish in the pond (need a heron to come by and provide some population control). We installed the CPF-2500 about 2 weeks ago, and the pond has gone from pea soup to almost completely clear. Hasn't been this clear since we filled it. Now I'll have to figure out how to hide the pumps :) . Our usual protocol with filters was to clean them when the water flow was reduced. We didn't notice any significant decrease in the water flow from this filter so we just backflushed it every day for the first week, every other day for a few days and now once a week? The backflushing is very easy; turn the flow control knob to redirect the water inside the filter and turn the crank to agitate the filters inside. A couple of minutes of incredibly dirty water outflows to feed our nearby plants. Have not had it long enough to comment on disassembly and cleaning which we hope won't be required until fall.I noticed some people had problems with leaks. The instructions were written for a different iteration of the filter and the adapters that came with it were different than pictured. It took a few minutes to figure out which washers went with which adapters. I believe the large O-rings are only used for the largest hose adapter. The flat rubber washers are for the smaller adapters and go between the adapter and the filter casing, not the adapter and the screw lock. Also, the flat washers are 2-sided. The indented side (not easy to see) goes against the filter and the flat side against the adapter. Maybe we were lucky, but ours went together with very easy hand tightening and no leaks at all. We used the 3/4 inch adapter which was a pain to insert in 3/4 inch hose. Submerging the hose end in almost-boiling water was the solution but still difficult.Based on their instructions, our fish load, and the size of the pond, we should have bought a bigger model. But this one worked like a champ. If you have pond algae problems, get this filter!

Also taghell.

Works great! Tried a number of things to remove algae from our pond ... nothing seemed to work. Kills algae, either filters or the algae sinks to the bottom of the pond. Pond is clear and no longer green
