This was a "drop in" replacement for the OEM drive that failed at the power/data connector. Do yourself a favor and replace the slimline cable with a drive replacement.

popped right in, windows-new-hardware-found-installing-device driver successful. ejected from context menu successful, played a cd. All good. The hardest part was transferring the screw-mounting bracket-thing off the old drive, on to the new one. The two screws that hold it on are microscopic. you almost need vice equipped work bench and tweezers to do it. If you drop one of the screws god help you. This is the 3rd one of these I've done recently, (different computers different dvd-drives but they all have the same part) and I REALLY wish these drives came with this part already machine-installed. BUT for whatever reason, NONE of them do so I can't really hold it against the seller of this one.

Simple to replace a drive that was giving me write errors. Once installed this drive shows up as an HP device that gave no write errors
