We hooked this unit up to an outdoor security light, and the multiple functions worked great for our application.Currently we use the dusk to dawn sensor for our back yard area where we don't have a lot of visibility, and combined with our security cameras it provides us some piece of mind, especially when we're travelling. You will need a small amount of electrical knowledge to hook it up correctly, but nothing too difficult, and if you're considering this unit your probably already have the skills you'll need.

I was tired of manually turning my outdoor lights on and off every day. This dusk-to-dawn timer switch has been a lifesaver. I installed it in my outdoor electrical box, and now my lights automatically turn on at dusk and off at dawn. It's so convenient and hassle-free.

I bought this photocell switch to replace a mechanical timer that controlled my outdoor lights. The timer was getting rusty and would get stuck all the time. I thought the photocell would be a perfect solution, to turn it on at night and off in the morning. The problem is that the location of the timer where I had to install the photocell is in the shade of a tree by the side of the house, so the photocell is not sensitive enough to detect that it is still daytime so it turns on the lights at around 5 pm when it is still really light out, and it doesn't turn them off in the morning. Every morning, I have been manually cycling it to Off then Auto and that causes it to turn off, but it's a pain to have to do it. Lately, I set it to the 10h setting, so it is better, it still turns on the lights at around 5 PM when the sun is setting but not dark yet, but at least it turns them off 10 hours later at 3 AM. That's not optimal because I would like the lights to still be on until sunrise at around 6:30 AM but that's the best I can do.When I bought it, I did worry a little about the location being too shady but I reasoned that the makers of the photocell switch surely would have made it sensitive enough to detect that if there is *any* ambient light at all, even if not strong, that means that the sun is still out and it should not switch on, but I guess I was too optimistic or too confident on their abilities. And unfortunately, there is no way to turn up the sensitivity.

Sometimes when you do an expansion of your outdoor lighting you need to grab power from an existing outlet. When that is the case you often do not have the ability to add a switch that is conveniently located. That is where this Photocell / Countdown Timer will be of great benefit. With a nicely made waterproof junction box this can be the switch that is now available to you. Install it between the Line and the Load and you now have a dusk to dawn setup for the lighting. They even provide you with everything you need to mount this, and attach this to conduit. This is great invention that will enable me to control the soon to be setup holiday lighting.

Purpose for Product: Adding photocell control to security light. Installed a low wattage light in a small area and light did not have photocell control.Product Inspection: Sturdy plastic control box, two feet of wires, installation hardware and installation instructions. Switch has multiple time choices and a power (ON) green light.Product Performance: Easy installation, there is a UP positioning arrow but doesn't have to be (UP) to operate. Switch works as described upon activation.Summary: Switch is a little pricey, but the options afforded are nice to have depending on individual users need up to 15 amps. Found no defects so far. Think I made a good choice.

Simple and easy to install! I love the long leads (26 inches total) that they provide, giving you the flexibility of picking the best location for the install without the need to attach it directly to the box! They provide a small nipple, but if you want more flexibility you will have to use a watertight conduit, rigid or flexible as you see fit. It is very easy to program, literally, just push the button and you can simply override the on/off by a simple press of the same button. It is fairly small in size and inconspicuous. It looks nice, works well, I like it!

This is a hardwired timer with timed options and dusk to dawn, I wired it to a outlet so I can plug some landscape lights but it can be wired directly to lights or some other device, so far is working great, comes with instructions if you are comfortable doing your own electric projects, very reasonable price IMHO.

Photocell on our security light quit and I replaced it with this unit. This works better because I can set it to run for a few hours after dusk instead of all night saving electricity. It could easily be mounted to an outdoor plug to turn yard lights o. And off.
