♣ Line the pliers up with the material where you want the hole to be, then press down on the plier handle & use the pliers jaws to make a small hole first. Put the eyelet in place & use the pliers to press the eyelet grommets into the material, which locks the eyelet in place.

The plastic casing of the tool was cut open and torn, in spite of the quality inspector’s number sitting right on top of it. So, I’m not sure how the item will perform because I haven’t used yet.

These set really nicely and I was concerned about the paint/coating staying on. I applied these grommets to several items and have now washed those items many times. Dried them in the drier on hot too. They have held up really well. No chipping, peeling or cracking. Also, they don’t leave rust marks on fabric which is great! Very happy with this purchase. The colors are very versatile too, something to make every fabric I sew with.

I bought three of these for a class I was teaching. Eyelets are bright and cheerful and there's a good variety of colors to choose from. However, two of the three punches broke within the first two uses and the third one wasn't working well.I can't return as I opened them outside of the return window as well as used some of the eyelets.

Before you purchase this, understand the steps. You have to punch a hole in whatever you're working with, insert the grommet, then press. It is not a self cutting grommet. The built in hole punch is garbage. I purchased this to put grommets in ribbon material. The hole punch doesn't cut thru 1, 2 or 4 layers. Its just a blunt pin, pushing the fabric thru a hole in the handle. The result is stretched, shredded fabric, with no hole. In my pics, you'll see the ugly spots on the ribbon samples. These are uncut holes. When I did get a partial hole, I installed a grommet, and you can see how ugly the install is. Upon closer inspection, I don't see ANY sharp edge in the hole punch, or anything that resembles a cutting edge, so I'm not sure how its supposed to work. Maybe its more suited for a rigid material. If you can cut a hole yourself, the press works just fine to install the grommets. I tried using a razor knife to cut a slit, and install the grommet, but it always ended up mangling the fabric. In the end, I used my bigger press, with self cutting grommets (the pretty bigger grommet in the middle). This press was of no use to me, other than wasting my time.
