While personally I have never heard of a tail gate being stolen I thought that this lock was a good idea so I bought one. When it arrived I went about the installation.One smashed finger, numerous unsavory words and no help from the printed instruction I figured it out.It took about 45 minutes to comple the 15 minute job! Was it worth it, I'm sure that I will never know!

The rings did not slide on easily but with effort we got them on.

The nylon ring inside the aluminum pieces should be able to compress inside the aluminum and pop out to fit against the tailgate bushing but it does not so it does not slip over the flange on the tailgate bushing no matter how much soap and water you use. I would prefer one like the tailgate lock for the newer models, actually locks and easy to install.
