I used these threaded inserts to attach the legs to a coffee table I built, so that the legs can be removed later if needed.I had no problem at all installing these. Drilling the correct size pilot hole is critical. For soft woods like pine, a 3/8" hole would work, however if installing in a very hard wood (or MDF in my case), I found that a slightly larger bit - 25/64" allowed the inserts to bite into the hole without cracking the wood or requiring excessive force to get them seated. These appear to be made of steel, and not the inferior pot metal or zinc prone to crumbling found in other inserts.

I bought these along with a jig to drill straight holes. but they wander a little if you don't hold them perfectly straight when you fasten them. I've had mine wander about 1 1/6 inch

Already buying more. For Spoil bord inserts this is a must!

I built a desk top out of Cherry and installed some metal legs I had ordered last year. easy to install and had no problem with them stripping. I would recommend threading the screw into each one before installing as that will clean out any flashing or shavings in the insert before installing the insert into the wood.
