First off, let's get straight what type of lopper this is. Anvil (where the blade strikes an "anvil") and bypass (where the sharp blade goes past the wider mating blade) are the two common types. The fourth picture in the product description clearly shows a tag that claims these are bypass type. I'd have to say they are "hybrid"...that is, for large branches, the serrated wide blade holds the branch to be cut, and the cutting blade cuts through it to the open space between the serrations. See my two pictures. But as I've used this lopper on some very fine green twigs -- and thus very flexible ones -- it's clear that they are cut by anvil action. The blade descends all the way to the bottom of the channel between the serrations. I'm finding the result to be vastly better than my old inexpensive bypass lopper. I was worried when I got this lopper and looked at it that it might not cut tiny twigs, but I'm easily and reliably cutting things down to a millimeter or less (0.04"). About my only "complaint" is that the serrated edges shown in the pictures keep me from getting really close to a large limb to cut off a shoot...it will leave a stub a couple mm long. But oh, those serrated edges! They hold larger branches tight. I don't think I've had them slip on a branch, except to maybe strip some bark off, in easily a thousand cuts.I'd say that you'll have some trouble cutting a 2 inch (5cm) limb if it's hard wood. I've found some larger branches (in the vicinity of 2 inches) that I tried to cut and decided I'd be doing myself a favor by using a saw on them instead - - but things up to an inch and a half or so haven't given me any trouble, and cutting a full 2" green soft wood limb works well.I like that the handles extend. Longer handles make handling larger diameters much easier, and when they are extended, I can reach up higher into a tree for trimming. The buttons for changing the handle extension are easy to use, even with my gloves on. The buttons are on the part that slides, which makes it relatively easy to do one-handed.Overall, I feel like the design and execution of it are both good. I'm enjoying using this lopper, and feel like it will hold up well for years, so long as I don't abuse them by trying to cut things that might fit into the jaws, but are too tough to cut easily.

This is a great product. Easily cuts through almost 3 inches. The expandable handles are also great.

These loppers work wonderfully! They come ready to go, and also include an extra blade. They are sharp and effective, and make it easy to clean up branches (even thick ones) from your yard. The handles are adjustable too, making it easy to reach even high up to prune your trees and bushes. I'm very glad I bought these! They are well worth the price.

First, I would actually give this tool a 4.5 star rating but Amazon does not make that possible.Three years ago I was hit with cancer. And for the last three years have been on heavy drugs that have made it impossible to trim my Sweet Viburnum hedge rows. So they have continued to grow toward being trees. Now that I'm finished with the medications and have some of my strength back, and before the cool spring days in Florida turn into those of our hot summers, I needed a tool that I could top the thick limbs of the hedges that my trimmer won't cut. That's when I found this extension lopper.I tend to read the negative reviews first and saw that these loppers look great, and tend to work fine until someone puts too much torque on the handles. Those handles are only affixed to the cutter by a light plastic coupling. This is the weak part of this tool and a poor design decision to save a few pennies. A metal coupling should have been used instead. So if someone really chomps a limb quickly with lots of arm strength, all of that energy does not have time to evenly dissipate and splits the plastic coupling.Knowing this ahead of time, I went ahead and ordered the lopper and through Prime got it quickly. I liked the idea of extending handles so I don't have to extend "myself" over a ladder. My first impression was that the tool was designed and built well, all except for that weak spot. It is light weight and that's great for my 70 year-old arms. The blade is made well and after first use, proved to be very sharp, truly passing through 1" limbs with no problem. 1.5" limbs required a little more power and I found that slowly squeezing the handles while working the blade back and forth a bit was able to slice through the wood.But the design flaw was obvious. So as I have had to do with other tools in the past, I got creative and came up with a solution. For the amount of work I'll use this for, this works fine for me. I simply put a hose clamp on each of the plastic couplings. This adds integrity and strength to the plastic. A metal coupling would have worked better and only cost the manufacturer a few cents more. So far, this has worked great for me and I can tell that the handles are now much more secure with the cutter and will take more torque without splitting.This solution may not be something you would want to do to a brand new tool. If not, just realize it's weakness and don't try to cut too thick a branch with this consumer grade lopper. Check out my photos for my upgrade to what is otherwise a great tool.

This looper has become my go to tool to deal with bushes, branches etc. I have a lot of vibernums around. And now cleaning up after Hurricanes Helene and Milton, this lopper is amazing. Nice extension on the handles. A little more would be even more great.It cuts efficiently through branches without having to apply too much force. It is sharp. And so far has stayed sharp. 1 to 2 inches thickness of the branch it can handle.Great tool.

I found this lopper tool to be perfect for anyone that has trees in their yards!! I am a senior woman, 5'1", 110 lbs. and my strength is not what it used to be. I've found this tool to be lightweight enough for me and very easy to use. It grows with the press of a button on each lever, so smoothly and shrinks just as easy. I was able to cut all of the dead branches on several of my trees that were within reach of this lopper. I'm beyond impressed...it was like this tool gave me the strength I needed. So darn easy to use and cleans up easily, tool. I don't believe anyone could be disappointed with this purchase.

Me gustó mucho su funcionamiento. Me permitió cortar ramas gruesas, alrededor de 4 cms sin problema alguno. Pude limpiar un área grande, que de otra manera me hubiera llevado el doble de tiempo con machete o con tijeras convencionales de podar. Como cosa negativa uno de los manerales se aflojó, pero pareciera que no estaba bien insertado, procedà a meterlo y parece que quedó bien. En ramas mas gruesas ya no las cortó y no quise forzar de mas; pero el filo y la operación en general, bastante bien

These branch clippers are effective and easy to use. Quick and secure handle extension when needed. Instructions say up to 2 inch branches - I think this is accurate. The blade was very sharp out of the box. I bought these to replace another brand where the handle extension broke - so far so good.

These are excellent and come with a replacement blade which was a nice surprise. They cut branches better than others I have tried but has its limitations. Branches of a 3cm diameter are about what they will comfortably get through but add another cm if you are willing to force it with brute strength but I wouldn't recommend this as you may break the choppers. My only criticism is that I find myself accidentally extending the handle lengths while using it as they only need to be depressed slightly for this to occur. A locking mechanism of some sort would be a good addition (they do have one but it is too easily disengaged).
