About this item

  • Spirocore
  • Bass
  • Spiral Core
  • Chrome wound

Thomastik-Infeld Spirocore strings have a flexible multi-wire spiral rope core. They offer a longer period of musical vibration and significantly reduce inertia. Spirocore strings are equally effective when playing Arco or pizzicato. They are highly responsive and long lasting. Bass set, 3/4 size.

The best strings for an acoustic bass for a great bluegrass sound. Always order this brand.

I have changed from my Evah Pirazzi Weich to a Spirocore. The EP are too quiet on my bass. The change is fine for E and A , it's ok for D and it's a total disaster for G. Terrible sound, twangy and noisy pizz and bowing (a bit better in this case). I ended up using an Eudoxa G string and it works perfectly. The Spirocore G string on my bass is too thin and sounds very badly. I don't think this is generally true I know people happily using this set. In general I am not impressed. I think I will change the D string as well, Iike the Eudoxas very much. I play jazz and classical music (baroque) and gut strings (wrapped in metal) are the best.

I play double bass in style of Dave Holland, Stanley Clarke and Scott Lafaro. The Spirocore Mediums (red silk winding at both ends) are the best strings I have used. Heavy enough for punch and sustain, but flexible enough to play quickly. Not bad for arco playing. I use a black hair (black hair is coarser than white hair) bow and Pops' Bass Rosin (used most often)or Gustave Berardel Rosin depending on the temperature. Though not not primarily made for arco playing, the Spirocroe strings are loud and respond well to the bow.All Thomastik Infield strings cost more than the average string, but they are not average strings. I hear no loss of sound even after 2 years and certainly never had a string break. I have used other U.S. made strings including D'Addario, and sorry to say they don't keep thier tone and I did have had a "G" string break at the end-ball which on a double bass is quite unnerving not to mention expensive! Most of us are playing 3/4 size basses - the Spriofcroe mediums are the model 3885. The S42 is for full size 7/8 to 4/4 bass. Too long a string can put the silk winding into your nut then your in trouble - check and order the right length strings and avoid a $$ mistake.Double bass strings are very expensive - it's difficult to evaluate many brands and weights as you can with guitar strings. Try these - you'll like them.
