I'm actually writing this review almost 6 1/2 years after I purchased them... as I am getting ready to order another set. The only negative thing I have to say is that I'm a little disappointed that price has gone up $49.70 since I bought them in 2017. However, I am pleased enough with how they served me to go ahead and bite the bullet and buy them again. As far as the strings... Well... I'm buying them again so that should speak for itself! I actually just got another bass (an Engelhardt) yesterday and I'm not a fan of the strings that are currently on it. I'm more of a Bluegrass player where I pluck and slap... and the strings that are on this bass would be more orchestra... play with a bow... type strings. These "LaBella 1006 Supernil Nylon Wound Bass Strings" made my other bass... a cheap Japanese plywood bass... sound amazing! I actually had the chance to be in a jam session with J. D. Crowe a few years before he passed away and he even commented on how good my old bass sounded and he even asked me it was an old Kay. These strings are easy on the fingers. They are very well balanced and I couldn't be happier with them. I can't wait to hear them on this Engelhardt!!! I highly recommend them!!!

Good for slap bass. Cost less than gut strings but give similar sound.

The strings are the best for Bluegrass playing.Easy on the fingers and don't cause blisters like hard metal strings.

I picked up these strings specifically to play slap bass, since my musical "job" was changing a bit. They are low tension, have a nice snap to them and a decent tone, not really like guts but a bit brighter. They play well for slapping, which is what they're meant for.The problem is that the E and A strings (the metal wrapped strings-- the D and G are nylon-wrapped) seem to have very sharp edges that take a little while to wear down-- and the first few times I played them I was very shocked to see horizontal grooves being worn into the fretboard that were clearly from the string windings rubbing as they hit the board. This has settled down as the strings got played in, but the damage is done and will be there until I have the fretboard resurfaced sometime.I realize slapping is going to wear a fretboard more than other styles-- but these strings do you no favors, and I've heard from knowledgeable sources that higher priced strings are much more gentle on the fretboard.
