After spending many hours stripping down my BMW e38's V8 engine and replacing timing chains, guides and a bunch other paraphernalia I buttoned it all back up. The last piece to go on was the clutch fan, left handed thread, 32mm nut, screwed directly onto the water pump. Juggling the awkward and heavy fan and trying to align the nut to the threads on the bolt proved to be more challenging than it should have been. I got it crooked and cross-threaded the water pump bolt. Decision point. Do I pull the water pump off and install a new one (there's a few hundred bucks gone)? Do I fork out about 300 bucks and switch to an electric fan setup instead?A quick online search pointed me to a Thread File. Something that I'd not heard of or used before. So I took a chance, paid the $17 and it worked perfectly. After about 10-15 minutes of filing work I had the cross-threads filed out and the clutch fan screwed on perfectly. I love the removable plastic sleeve/handle, it would have been uncomfortable to use without it. Recommended product. Saved me a bunch of time and money.

Shipping took forever..wouldnt buy again. Ive used it a few times and its been ok so far.. stampings are off..likely the 7 year old chinese boy fell asleep after his 22 hour work shift. Not worth the hilariously long wait time from the 3rd party shipper.

I buggered up the post threads while removing my VWs windshield washer arms. With this I was able to get the threaded post cleaned up enough to work the nut back on. Helpful little tool.
