I typically try to find shorter, higher performance antennas for use with my HT radios and scanners. In the higher frequency ranges like UHF where the GMRS and 440 mHz ham bands are located, this is less of a compromise than for the lower frequency VHF bands.Manufacturers of popular HT radios like Baofeng, Radioditty, and Tidradio typically supply a rubber duck type antenna about 6" long. While not all that long, they do make for a somewhat unwieldy package. Because of long experience with their superior performance, I usually find an appropriate Smiley antenna to replace the stock one. Smiley makes a high quality antenna that can be ordered to specific bands in shorter lengths that perform as well or better than the longer stock antennas. I have more than a dozen on hand, the latest being the 2.25" long GMRS Mini-Duck.I saw that Tidradio was offering its own brand tiny duck, the 1.625" long TD-805S for both UHF and VHF. After ordering a pair, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it equaled or exceeded the performance of comparable Smiley antennas in many cases. This included on the GMRS band as well as on VHF band railroad frequencies. When the fact that the -805S is roughly half the price of a comparable length Smiley, the Tid stands out even more. You'd do well to consider the TD-805S in order to upgrade your HT radios into a more compact yet still very capable package.

Great little stubby antenna that fits well on my Tidradio and can also be used on other brands and models like the UV-5R family.Works great for simplex communication, especially for short distances like a campground, hunting or even a road trip. I would guess the best distance you could get is about 1/2 mile, in simplex mode. If your stationary and close to a repeater, then you probably could hit it again only if close enough. It also allows some bit of privacy in that your signal wont go too far. Sometimes its nice to not have a 8 to 15 inch whip antenna whacking you in the face or poking someone in close quarters. It also allows you to drop the radio in your pocket easily. It makes everything very compact. This has it's purpose and fits the need nicely. Highly recommend adding this item to your radio arsenal.

It is working fine but not for all frequencies. I am still looking for an answer regarding this issue. Seller has no clue... The antenna is well made. Works very well on most frequencies I am using. You can feel a better range switching from that shorter antenna that came with my Walki talkie. The price is very good for 2 antennas in the package.

There might be a chance these things could damage your radio! The SWR might be aweful. They all very drasticaly if I'm not mistaken. You can't get ANY fars with these no distance at all. They work in yelling range though. A lot of good that does... Maybe to keep in touch with your next door neightbor and I doubt they can even do that.

If you know radios, you know that the VSWR of a given antenna is an important part of the equation that determines how efficiently the antenna mates to the radio which affects how much signal is pumped out into the atmosphere which determines how far you can transmit and receive. My GMRS TIDRADIO came with an antenna about 6" long. This antenna (depending on the frequency/channel) typically yields a VSWR at its worst case of 2.8 (lower is better). The 771 antenna reviewed here drops the VSWR to under 2 across the entire GMRS band with a reading of 1.5 on the channel that had read 2.8 with the original antenna. If you're not that familiar with VSWR this sounds a bit vague, but there a lot of factors that go into measuring VSWR with a real antenna in the real world. Take my word for it, though, that this antenna is an improvement. And that improvement shows up in the field. I tested this by walking out from a friend while talking on the radio in an urban setting. (Not the best way to use the radios, but because of buildings and the like I could do the test in a shorter distance than if I was in an open field. ) I started with the original antenna and increased my distance until reception got unusable. At this point I swapped to the 771 antenna and immediately was able to transmit and receive to my friend. I got at least a 25% increase in straight-line distance but expect I would have had more in a better setting. The trade-off for this antenna is that it is longer than the original factory version. However, at an overall length of about 15" (antenna only) it's not anything worth concern. Some bundles of the radio come with this antenna, but if you have the radio without it--and are interested in increasing your range--I highly recommend it.

SWR was close to 2 in both bands, as measured on a VNA for the GMRS version. One antenna was a little better than the other. They did hit correctly on the GMRS frequencies rather than the adjacent 70cm band, unlike most 771 antennas. These are not the very best performing of the antennas I have tested, but they are pretty good. They are the best I have found at this price point. They are 10 times better than some of the stubby antennas I have tested. On the other hand, the air band version performed very poorly. SWR came to a minimum of around 2.4 at 106MHz, which is near the low end of the air band. Near the upper end, it is well over 12. 3 is generally considered to be the maximum usable value, with numbers below 1.5 being desirable. When I tried to tune in the local ATIS (Airport Terminal Information System) frequency for my area, the rubber ducky antenna that came with the radio worked better than this one.

I purchased this to add a little clarity and performance over the rubber duck that came with the radio. It does just that providing clearer reception and transmission.
