About this item

  • Here is the answer, a time delay relay. This relay fits most common single or dual beam HID wiring harnesses for an easy fix to prevent HID from starting before cranking the engine.
  • Relays are contact rated at 30A @ 14 VDC, and sealed for waterproof operation
  • 10 second delay before switching On
  • Avoid those pesky ignition errors, flickering/fluttering HID, and needless wear and tear on ballasts.
  • Not only suitable for HID, can be used in any 5 pin relay harness, like for the oil pump

- Rated Voltage: 12V - Operating Voltage: 11VDC ~ 15VDC - Delay time (operate time): 10SS ± 1S - Contact Rating (resistive): 30A/14VDC - Max. Switching power: 420W - Weight (approx.): 40g Pin lay-out; 30: Positive 12V feed power (from battery for example) 85: Negative / Ground 86: Positive 12V trigger to activate relay and timer (from headlight switch for example) 87: 10 second delayed output positive (Normally open) (to HID ballast for example) 87a: Normally closed and unused (12V positive when 12V on pin 86, power switched to pin 87 after 10S).

Used as a control relay for a circuit that we need to activate after vehicle starts. 87A is “on” for the first 10 seconds then turns off, terminal 87 is “off” for the first 10 seconds then turns on…In our application only using the 87 to turn on circuit after vehicle starts..

Another reviewer posted the pins below. This is my first time using a time-delay, and I had 85 and 86 swapped, which worked fine with a regular relay, but not with the time delay. I had to go to the reviews, but I learned something! Convention is 85 to ground. I'm very happy this works- my electric fans don't come on right away so there is less load on the battery when firing up my Camaro- no slow crank!Pin 30 = constant 12v power (battery)Pin 85 = relay groundPin 86 = 12v trigger to activate relay and timerPin 87 = normally open (12v applied till after 10s)Pin 87a = normally closed (12v applied once trigger 12v applied to pin 86, power to pin 87a expires after 10s and switched power to pin 87)

Using for my LED floor lights on the interior of my vehicle. They were getting burned out every few months about half way thru strip. I was thinking since they are hooked up to a 12vdc ignition switch they are getting a power spike when vehicle is started and burning out. Now they turn on about 10 seconds after i start the vehicle. Hopefully this fixes my issue. time will tell. Peace of mind for 10 bucks at 15 min of work

Works just as designed & described. Just hard to justify the price.

After installing this relay, it did not change state after 10 seconds as it should. To be sure something wasnt wrong with the socket, I tested it on the benchand the relay still would not change state even after several minutes of being energized. Before giving up on this relay, I changed polarity to be sure, energized again, and still nothing.Hopefully other customers don't have a similar experience.

I used 1 of these to make a controller precharge circuit for my Ryobi ZTE 48volt zero turn mower. When I swapped out the 4yr old lead batteries for new lifepo4 batteries, the startup amp draw from the controller was tripping the BMS on the lifepo4 batteries. I used of this relaywith1 100w resistor ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0995NG7K7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )and1 5pin relay ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078T3RC5T/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )to make a precharge relay circuit that precharges the controller capacitors for 10sec before engaging the main power relay.

Used this relay to add day time running lights to an older vehicle. The delay is longer than 10 secs. but around 15 secs it comes on every time. Nice to have.

does 10s delay when power applied to 86. if power removed, timer resets each time. As expected

Been using it for my FASS system in my diesel pick up, been working very consistently for acouple weeks now, I did take an average time and it only delays for 7 seconds not the full 10 but it’s consistent is the main thing. Just know walking into it it may not have the full 10 second delay but I think for the money it’s a good buy for sure

Used this on my boat to prevent oil pressure alarm from sounding while starting the engine.

I haven't installed this yet, but I plan on using it as a seatbelt warning light. I tested both the NO and NC functions and it works in both cases. In my case I want the light to come on when voltage is applied then shut off after 10 seconds.
